DD2 (8 months) throwing up again !

DD2 who is nearly 8 months appears to have a bug again.
She threw up yesterday all in her cot, it wasn't like normal baby sick, it was like green slime and actually smelt like vomit as aposed to baby sick and then about 20 minutes later again all over our bed. This time she was almost choking, like there was barely anything left to come out. I kept her off of her food etc and just gave her dioralyte for a good 5 hours or so and then tried her on 2 oz of milk which she held down well - she had another 2 oz first thing this morning and then approx 3 oz when she usually has her weetabix. All was fine, got dressed to go visit friend, in traffic on the way there she threw up everywhere, frightened DD1 because she'd gone all red in the face and was screaming - abandoned friends house and came straight home, as well pulled up on drive she had another massive heave

She's not got diorrhea (sp?) which is confusing me slightly as she has always had the 2 together, last time was hospitalised because it was so bad. She has been very hot and grumpy for about a week now but I just put it down to her teething.

Has she had any water and kept that down since the last time she threw up?

She is keeping it down yes, this is what I don't understand it's not like she's just eaten an bringing it back up again - she last ate about 2 hours before she was sick today and the same yesterday. She's had milk this morning and not been sick after it.

Not called doctor, figured they'd just say the same as usual, lay off milk, give water and dioralyte

strange - i guess it must be a bug
if it was something she had eaten/allergic to she would be sick straight away
If she is still like this in 24 hours i would still call the docs
dioralyte is good stuff in the meantime

TBH I find my doc's absolutely useless as far as sickness & diorrhea are concerned.
She fine in herself, laughing and playing

Could it be an intolerance to something. DD is milk intolerant and had occassional bouts of projectile vomitting, mind you she also had vile, vile, mucusy bloody nappies, which I presume DD2 doesn't have.

Another thing to look out for is constipation, as this can also cause projectile vomitting.

she has been a bit constipated for a few days now you mention it and it was defo projectile vomitting

I think the logic is, they try to digest it but there's nowhere for it to go, so it comes back out the way it went in. Not saying it is definitely that but it may be. Give your doctor a call and see what he thinks.

dried apricots usually have a good result for constipation
try them wih her brekkie tomorrow so if they do work she won't poo at 3.00 am

Prunes are good too. Lots of water or watered down apple juice too.

Lactulose (from chemist or GP) is good as it gets the gut to retain more water, so softening stools, and is really gentle on little ones.

Have just looked here and she seems to actually have a few of the symptons were it says to consult doctor.

She seems starving after vomitting but only takes tiny sips of fluid whereas she usually polishes off 7oz noproblem

Yep - call GP, it'll put your mind at rest.

Called - no apts til 5, have taken it but will keep an eye on her and cancel if needs be

FogHorn - my DD had a really bad bug at 12 months. It is not very nice. I would avoid all dairy products (as these feeds the bacteria) - you must get fluids down as much as possible. My DD use to eat banana cos she was so starving - it was horrible to see her like that.

What I meant to finish with was maybe you could try your DD on banana too!!

Iknow Lolly, she was hospitalised in April with dehydration from V&D.

She's got that really strong smell on her breathe too - do you know what I mean ?

My DD had the same thing - her breath smelt but I think that is where she wa sbeing sick. I think when adults are sick we can brush our teeth etc but they can't. My DD was also hospitalised. It was really scary. My DD at the Rota Virus(?) think thats how you spell it.

Yep that's what DD2 had too - sure it's spelt the same. It's a strain of gastroentoritis.
Off to doctors in a mo - just going to wake DD2 up and get her into a sleepsuit so she's nice and cosy

Let us know how you get on. It is very contagious. DP had it then I had it and then DD got it again - she had it twice and all in all it lasted 2 weeks.

Off to hospital now - GP referred us to Peadeatric ward for assessment - concerned about the green vomitting and lack or urine, thinks she's dehydrated again.
Just waiting for DH to get home as he wants to come too - DD1 with Gran

Back home - everything as I thought, just told to keep a close eye on her. She is showing signs of dehydration i.e. dry nappies, toes not returning to a normal colour very quickly etc but as she seems well in herself they have let her come home. We are to keep a close eye is she starts to become drowsy and not her usual self

She had about 4oz when we got home from hospital then bed. She has had about 4 oz this morning but has now had diarrhea.
Fingers crossed she'll be in the mend soon
