Ultrasound shows some urine retension after emptying bladder

80ml and I have been referred to see a urologist. I was refered for the ultrasound due to some pain and frequent urination. Kidneys and pelvis otherwise ok. Does anyone have experience of this. Any replies would be appreciated.

My mum has urine retention after emptying her bladder and consequently keeps getting UTIs. It’s been put down to her vaginal prolapse pushing against the bladder and creating a space for the urine to sit and not be eliminated properly. She’s going to be given a vaginal pessary to hold it all in place :)

I have residual urine remaining in my bladder after urinating. I can't remember the amount now but I think it was more. Poss 150ml?

I felt like I needed to pee ALL the time and and UTIS a lot.

I now self catheterise a few times a day after I've already passed as much urine as possible and this helps me feel more comfortable and stops old urine building up and bugs causing so many UTIS

It was a bit weird and uncomfortable to get used to at first but now isn't an issue at all.

I don't know what caused my retention. Possibly nerve damage in my spine. I don't have any prolapse.

The urologist may have to do further tests like a voiding cysotogram to see the extent of your retention. Was this picked up by ultrasound? If so it's fairly painless and nothing to worry about. There can be many causes for retention and many ways to overcome it

Thanks for the reply. I do also have some problems having had surgery in 2015 so I suppose it could be that as well? To be honest 'm so fed up I dont mind what they do if it comes to some resolution.

I have had this since I was 14 and I am now 38. I have a lot of urine infections so the urologist prescribed daily antibiotics (ceflaxin) - I have been on them since I was 14. I take one daily everyday and if I have a flare up I up it to 3 a day. No one has ever suggested any other treatment etc. I occasionally try to swap to other antibiotics but I prefer the cefalexin.
