What's the current thinking on treatment of verrucas?

DS (4 1/2) has what I think is a verruca on his heel.

When I had these as a kid, we had to have all sorts of revolting things done ... have things moved on?

What I'm really hoping is that I can leave it and it'll go away of its own accord ... any chance that that's going to happen?

Meant to say that I'd had it for years, and it was a lot of leakage down that hand (hand that supported boob) that made me realise it was vanishing.

Thanks for the links and info ... I have printed off the leaflet - ds isn't complaining that it hurts (yet), so I'll leave it alone until he does ... although I am tempted by the banana skin and breastmilk methods of removal (currently pg with dc2)!
