laryngitis - when will I get my voice back???

Have had a horrible chest infection and lost my voice on Saturday. It still hasn't returned even though mostly I'm feeling better. the odd word will come out but mostly I still have to whisper and it's so frustrating (esp. with two children!). How long might it take to get my voice back?

dolly - have you had it checked out? i had laryngitis recently and lost my voice totally twice. the whole thing has lasted about a month and only now is my voice properly back. each time, my voice was totally gone for about 3 days then i had to whisper for another couple of days. they tried antibiotics for me after about 2 weeks but they didnt work. i am a teacher - first time i was away from work for 4 days, second time for a week.

I've had a chest infection so on antibiotics for that - dr said they wouldn't help the laryngitis and that my voice would come back gradually - I have been whispering for nearly a week now! I did manage to speak out loud a bit today, but it's really hard work,plus I worry it'll make it 'go' again. I'm due back at work on Monday as generally feeling better. Oh well, no phone calls for me!
