Sleep apnoea assessment - private costs

It has been suspected for a long time that I have sleep apnoea but I know that there is a long waiting list in my area for the assessment.
Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to get the assessment done privately? I would be self funding as that is one of the things our health insurance doesn't cover.

Why bother with an assessment, why not just use the money to get a CPAP machine and see if it helps?

I didn't think you could actually buy one yourself and use it safely.

You need to have a proper sleep study done. DH was diagnosed privately at QVH and they were lovely. Why not give them a ring and ask?

I have sleep apnoea and all I did was complete an Epworth sleep scale chart and saw a doctor who said I needed a cpap machine and I was given one, and trained on how to use it the same day.

I was then called back after a month and I was getting apnoeas up to 100 times a night.

Is there another hospital nearby that you could be referred to?

The only hospital that covers OSA is at the John Radcliffe in Oxford, which is about an hour's drive away. I have noticed that these are OSA charities that can loan out equipment for a few nights that take the readings from a wrist unit, pulse oximeter and nasal tubes. Then you send that back to them and they compile a report. I wondered if that would speed things up a little. I think he will just have to contact the Neurophysiology department to ask if they have any cancellations. We know it quite well now due to one DS who got seen there for his epilepsy EEG and one DS who is being seen for another sleep disorder.

I forgot that I posted this about myself, but it's late and I forgot to say that DH is currently on referral for OSA too.
