Right dd has had a slight cold but nothing too worrying, yesterday at bedtime asked for medicine but i told her not to be silly she wasn't ill. this pm noticed her face was slightly puffy around glands and did temp 37.2 nothing desperate but gave calpol to stop her developing a temp that was at 4pm. it obv. didnt work as now her temp is 39.9, have just given baby nurofen.

what do i do if it doesnt work?

It should work, but you should also strip her off and, if you have one, put a fan on her. You could also mop her down with a nice, cool flannel.

Good luck!

Hi I don't know how old your child but one interesting thing i can add is my ds had a temperature and i gave him the two 5ml spoonfuls of calpol, nothing happened, speaking to a nurse on the childrens ward calpol should be measured by weight and not age and my son should have three spoons but they don't tell you that on the bottle, terrified of being sued apparently.

Also ice pops or ice lollies good because your helping with the internal temperature and a nice treat too

amidaiwish · 12/07/2007 19:42

how old is your DD?
what's the temperature now? it should have gone down after the nurofen.

sorry i went away, took dd for a walk (in buggy) out in the cool as she wouldnt let me take her clothes off (by the time i wrote she let me take er top off she'd put it back on!) shes 2.8 btw. by the time we got home her temp had gone down to around 38 and just before bed she was around 36.6 again! phew!

sorry i panicked ladies!

Well done! If it happens again and her temp doesn't come down you can take her to hospital where they will give as much ibuprofen and paracetemol as is safe and do everything they can to prevent febrile confulsion (fits). Remember to rehydrate. dd#2 had a temp of 30 and we took her to hospital and this is what they told us. She was 5 months old at the time. Hope you're both recovering!

amidaiwish · 12/07/2007 21:04

oh that's good to hear
we had a shock with DD2 last year, her temp hit 40 and we couldn't get it down with calpol, went to A&E and they said with high temps always give them both calpol and nurofen - the combination gets the temperature down quickly. if it doesn't, get to A&E quickly as at 40deg febrile convulsions can happen.

if they aren't keeping the medicine down get to A&E too, they can give it by suppository.

anyway, of no benefit to you now as all is ok, just thought i would inform

Staceym11 · 13/07/2007 08:10

well she was sort of ok overnight but now shes woken up with 39 again, wont take medicine, trying to keep her cool and hope that keeps it down, shes playing today which is more than she was doig yesterday!

thanks for the help!
