URGENT Advice for treatment of vomiting baby please!

Hi everyone

Ds vomited his entire dinner at 9pm last night, we cleaned him up then he vomited up a breast feed, then over the next two hours he continued to wretch up clear fluid every 20 minutes. He was coughing, red in the face and crying each time. Horrible.

Since then he has kept down a breastfeed and extra water at 2am and 8 am. We sat up with all night and he has slept and seems fine this morning.

So the question is do I try him with some solids or keep him on breast milk and water for a day? I am not sure whether it was just his dinner that didn't agree with him or whether he has one of these vomiting bugs.

Has anyone else had a similar experience recently?

Lois My ds went through peroids when he did projectile vomiting, it may not be the same thng but we found out he had a dairy intolerance. Thankfully I was still breastfeeding so I've carried on and got him on alternative formula. The advice I was given was to continue breastfeeding and to offer water, the dr also prescribed some rehydration sachets which he told me to feed instead of some bottle feeds (ds didn't like them). Most babies go through this stage, the main thing is to not let ds get dehydrated. If in doubt check with you HV or dr.

My dd has had a vomitting bug recently, and so have a lot at her nursery, so there are definately a few going around.

Sickness didn't last long but like your ds was sick quite a few times. I find that For the next day it is good to keep them on fluids only - and I give very diluted milk - say 2oz milk and rest water - and then offer them some 'bland' food if they are hungry, like bread, or cereal. Plenty of fluids is a must because of the sickness - difficult when they are being sick though. HTH

Keep him on breastmilk for the day - no need for extra water - he'll get all he needs fluid wise from the breast. If he seems as though he is looking for solid food let him have some and see what happens. Hopefully it has passed.
