Hospital have my MRI/CT scan results but won’t give them to me for 2 or 3 weeks

Are there any guidelines as to how quickly nhs must give you results of scans once they have them? I had scans to rule out (hopefully) the possibility of a tumour and would obviously really like to know what they say.

MRI was done 3 weeks ago. I asked how I could find the results out a while ago and they said they would go to my GP. GP has heard nothing so I rang hospital to ask when they are due. They said they were showing on file as through. I asked how to find out the results and they said they could ask the doctor to write a letter to my GP, which will take 2-3 weeks.

Is there anything I can do to find out more quickly?

I guess I also want to know so I can pursue other areas of enquiry if that’s not what’s causing the problems.

Arghh! So yes your consultant will have them. I would ring the secretary and ask the consultant to give you a ring if possible. You're right you need to know one way or the other Angry

The hospital told me to go to the GP to get results

many consultants think that I am their house officer
I set them clear on this point!
not up to me to give results that they have requested.
reception may know that their local hospital has a habit of doing it, but the GPs should be a bit more resilient in batting it back.

Fair enough dietcoke I just want to find out what is wrong and what can be done about it though, so will take the information I need to progress this from whoever is prepared to give it. If this isn’t the cause I’ll need my GP to refer me elsewhere so hopefully can cover two birds with one stone in an appointment.

Thanks Iam. The secretary said they could only write me a letter but I might try PALs to see if there are any other options.
