DD keeps getting fevers - should I worry????

DD is 10 months and has had approx 10 high fevers already. 3 have been in the last 2 weeks. She doesn't get other obvious symptoms but gets very easily upset and clingy and goes off her food with each fever. Usually they are around 39-40 degrees. Sometimes they last less than 24 hours but this week she was ill for four days.

None of the fevers have worried me individually. They are controlable with Calpol. But I am beginning to worry that their frequency suggests something is wrong with her immune system. Am i being paranoid?

She could be teething.

I would go the docs to get it checked out

Could be something like a urine infection. I would book a GP appointment, but it could be teething also.

i dont think this would suggest an immune problem tbh, a temperature is part of the immune response (i think), so it must be working iyswim, but im no expert. This really does sound like teething to me, the temperatures with no other symptoms apart from clingyness etc. Try getting some of those teething powders, they really calmed my dd down, sorry cant remember what they are called but they are homeopathic. If you are worried though, there is no harm in talking to your GP to put your mind at rest. I also think that as the temps are controllable this is a good sign too. I dont have any expertise in this, just going on what happened with DD. IT could be that she has a stubborn infection that is not budging but i would have expected her to be more sick tbh.

It could be teething but her first 8 came through with no obvious problem.

I did take her to the docs for one of the fevers which hung around. He tested urine and she was OK. At that point I was not worried so didn't mention the frequency of fevers. I guess I should go back.

Do you all think 10 fevers in 10 months sounds unusual?

x posted lucyellen'smum. maybe it is teething. DH pointed out that although she didn't have fevers the day we spotted her existing teeth she had them in the weeks proceeding. But isn't a 40 degree fever quite extreme for teething?

i think the fever tends to come when there is inflammation as the tooth is trying to emerge so the pattern sounds like teething. Well it sounds like what happened with my DD at least. 40 is quite high, what thermometer are you using? DD did have temps between 39-40, i only gave calpol after about 38.5 degrees. I was told that a good way of bringing down a temp by the way is to give a WARM bath (as warm as is safe) and allow to air dry in a warmish room. The warmth of the bath brings the blood to the surface and she cools down quickly, was told this by a nurse on local out of hours. I guess if DD is going to throw a temp with teething, mine did every time tbh then i would expect the fevers to be fairly frequent. Has this coincided with the begining of teething maybe or has she been like this from birth. I really dont think there is too much going on here but i do think you would be wise to talk to GP just to put your mind at rest and rule out any problems.
