Instant stomach ache and pain after certain food

VLCos · 01/03/2019 19:07

Three times now after going out for a meal I have been in pain half way through.

I feel instant bloat and severe pain in the stomach . Bra feels tight .

First time it was a pastry dish
Second Curry with Nann bread
Third Pizza

I also get this when eating anything like a pie.

It comes on really quickly, I have been tested for coealic a while back but could I be sensitive to gluten or wheat ?

Any advice would be welcome thank you

My coeliac disease manifested itself like this. I was in so much pain after eating that I ended up in A&E for the first time in my life, I am in my seventies. It also caused massive constipation.

No matter what your blood test said put yourself on a gluten free diet for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. Coeliac doesn't always show in the blood.

I went gluten free and got better. I then started eating gluten again and quickly became very ill. I did this 2 times and it proved to me that I was coeliac. This was later confirmed.

It sounds like wheat intolerance, not necessarily coeliac. I seem to be intolerant to all high carb foods, so now eat low carb, but like you, I used to get bloating and stomach pain after eating anything made with flour.

Hi, I felt very much like what you describe especially the tight bra! After many tests I was diagnosed as having Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). A course of specific antibiotics cleared it up but I do have to take nexium on a daily basis now.

Msg?

Boodlesnuts · 01/03/2019 21:39

I developed Crohn's in my late 20s. Mostly triggered by carbs for me (and eating too much of them). Hugely painful stabbing pains about 30 minutes after I start eating then spend a lot of time in the toilet. The pain is relieved by going to the toilet. In case that sounds at all familiar.

Gall stones springs to mind. Those are high fat foods and that is a trigger for the type of pain you are describing. For me it felt like I had a very tight elastic bad just under my bra and I got very bloated. Pain felt like a contraction that didn’t stop

dahliaaa · 01/03/2019 21:43

Just following because I have real issues with the ‘bra too tight’ ever since having gallbladder removed (18 months ago so not linked to surgery recovery.)

VLCos · 01/03/2019 21:45

Thanks all ! I have had my gallbladder removed and been tested for H Pylori .
My dad has Crohns and so did his his dad so I had a colonoscopy last year to check for this but everything looked ok. My bowels are not great at all .

If I do eat low carb I feel a lot better. I think I'm going to try gluten/wheat free for a while see if that helps

Is there any link with when you had your gallbladder removed ?

lljkk · 01/03/2019 21:53

I was thinking high salt. They sounded like not-made-at-home foods, anyway. Bread is also high in salt.

Splodgetastic · 01/03/2019 21:54

You mentioned naan and pizza. Was the pastry a croissant or something with yeast in it? I had exactly this problem, but was fine with pasta, so I knew it wasn’t gluten. I also had this problem with beer. The more bread I ate the worse it was - I once had toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch (was very busy) and spent about two hours on the toilet in the afternoon, mainly passing gas as I was in agony. Soda bread is fine though.

Splodgetastic · 01/03/2019 21:58

Sorry, ignore me. I see you have the problem with pies too. Do you ever handle flour / pastry / dough and find your hands itching?

VLCos · 01/03/2019 22:10

Hmm could be linked to gallbladder.

I don't really eat bread I don't like it . I find any thing like a white bread , white rice , normal pasta sit in my stomach like a glue and bloat me so I avoid them .

No itching but I don't cook much with flour or pastry.

I get full easily to when eating the problem food .

The pain feels like an instant punch in the stomach and eases around half hour to an hour after eating .

My digestion has completely changed since I had gallbladder removed OP. Plus right sided pain and wearing bra very very uncomfortable (never problem before.)
Had blood tests and ultrasound and all normal. Difficult to work out pattern but bread definitely makes it’s worse.

babysharkah · 01/03/2019 23:46

With a family history of coeliac I think you need to get checked again it can manifest at any age. I have ibs d and get a similar reaction but would want to rule out coeliac.

VLCos · 02/03/2019 07:58

Thanks all I will look into getting tested again .

I definitely think gallbladder removal hasn't helped !

I've recently been diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and have symptoms like yours, strangely I've also had my gallbladder removed....

VLCos · 02/03/2019 12:47

That is strange .

I already take 20mgs a day of omeprezole and acid has been creeping back

OP posts:
VLCos · 02/03/2019 12:48

I also sometimes feel breathy not breathless

OP posts:
Girliefriendlikescake · 02/03/2019 20:14

I'm on 40mg of omeprazole and feel it if I try and reduce the dose. Caffeine and sugar are triggers I'm sure....

VLCos · 03/03/2019 09:15

I think so to. I'm overweight so I'm sure that doesn't help.

Iceberg lettuce and onions give me cramps. Funnily enough salad leaves and banana shallots don't have the same effect.

pelirocco123 · 03/03/2019 09:21

IBS and or reflux ? .I have had my gall bladder out , I think maybe those who have had gall bladder problems also have various digestive problems
