Huge health anxiety - please be kind

Since last night I've felt like something is in my eye, an eyelash or something but there's nothing to be seen at all. I woke up myself in the night by rubbing it and the feeling won't go away. I've tried optrex eye wash a few times and the pharmacist suggested hydromellose. Eye isn't weeping, vision is ok, no redness maybe a tiny bit. I've booked optician tomorrow but I have huge health anxiety and scared stiff.

Please try not to worry.
It could be lots of very simple things, such as a tiny bit of grit, or slightly dry eye.
I'm sure your optician will be able to advise you and put your mind at rest.

HA is horrendous. I wish I could spend my time being healthy instead of worrying about every serious illness under the sun.

Also any redness is probably from you rubbing your eye.

shishnfips · 22/02/2019 20:15

Thank you for your kindness.

HA is awful. My mind catastrophises everything instantly.

It could be an eye infection but even if it was you can just go to doctors tomorrow and get antibiotic eye drops which would clear it up in no time at all.
See if it’s better or worse tomorrow.

Hi @shishnfips I have health anxiety too so I really feel for you. Every so often I get a tiny little spot on my lower eyelid, right on the rim that touches my actual eye if that makes any sense? I often feel like something is scratching my eye and now the first thing I do is check to see if it's one of them and it invariably is... I get them more often when stressed. X

You're welcome.
I won't bore you with all my imagined ailments but yes, worst case scenario always. Currently waiting for cbt.
Have you spoke to your GP about your anxiety? May be something for you to think about?

LilQueenie · 22/02/2019 20:22

I get this from time to time. usually goes after a day or so.

So I ended up with a foreign body in my eye. The optician tried to get it out with a cotton bud but it still felt gritty. I went and paid to see a consultant ophthalmologist who confirmed nothing in there but an ingrown eye lash which was removed.

It still feels gritty. He's given me various drops to sooth.

But obviously HA is screaming at me something is still wrong.

I have one lash that always grows in and I have to pluck it.
Glam aren’t I?!
If I don’t get it early enough and it rubs in the eye or I find it irritating and rub at the eye then it always feels “off” for a bit.

Tomtontom · 23/02/2019 16:31

It's going to feel gritty because there's been lots of poking and prodding in the eye.
