Any experience with a newly low resting heart rate?

I had Bariatric surgery 6 months ago. Since then my resting heart rate is anywhere between 40-60. As soon as I move it goes up to normal but as soon as I'm still it just drops again.

I know a few years ago when I used to wear a Fitbit it was quite a high resting rate, as most very overweight people have. I don't know if it's from the surgery itself or just a coincidence.

I asked my surgeon about it 2 months post surgery when I started wearing a Fitbit again and was surprised to see it in the 40s, and with manual checking I got the same. He said if I don't feel unwell it's alright and that should go back to normal soon.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I can't work out why it would suddenly be different now, and so low! When I tried to look online all I could find was that people in 'peak physical condition' ie Olympic athletes have a resting heart rate in their 40s, and that's very obviously not the situation here! I don't trust any fitbit to get it right. I'd try some other devices b4 I believed it.
