Simple cold for few days has left me feeling horrific! What is it?

I got a cold Tuesday last week - just the general bunged up nose, lots of sneezing kind of thing.

Continued through the week, by Friday most of the sniffly bit had cleared up and I battled on at work all week - got home from work and felt rough. Lay on sofa all night then went to bed - I havent been able to get up for more than a few minutes at a time since. I dont feel too bad lying down, when I get up to attempt to make a drink or something i feel completely spacey, shaky and weak.

I am feeling a bit paranoid as I got very ill a couple of years ago when a cold developed into double pneumonia and pleurisy, by the time I got to hospital I had sepsis and was very very ill. I was in hospital for a month and 9 months off work recovering.

Im sure this is nothing like that but I cant remember another time feeling so poorly from a cold.

Can anyone advise?

There is a heavy cold going around and a lot of people have it. I'm in Ireland. I was talking to a person from England who's on break here for the week. He works in Europe and his offices in Germany and Italy, there's a lot of people coughing and sneezing.

I can shake off a cold easily enough. I can down last week with it. I was absolutely floored on Saturday and had to take to the bed. My mother has the same dose, she is pension age now and she lounges about with icepacks and heat packs on her head. Looking at her you'd swear she was on deaths doorstep.

I’ve had a cold for a week now, not a bad cold, runny nose, sneezing, don’t feel poorly really but I am so tired! I feel absolutely shattered, I had a 4 hour lie in Saturday AND Sunday morning, but am still knackered. I’m struggling at work, could fall asleep at my desk, and really just wanted to crawl back into bed when I got home.

I'm on week FOUR of this horrific cold. I do feel better but I'm still under the weather & streaming. I'm tired of it now

It's "just a cold" we say. We take some drugs and plough in through.

I think we have selective amnesia about colds and how rotten they make us feel.
Sometimes we really just need to rest and take care of ourselves.

I have had it for TEN WEEKS now. I was off work for a few days before Christmas, and honestly thought I was dying. It hasn’t been at the same level since, but I seem to go up and down, as if I am getting a new dose - maybe I am?

I went to the doctor six weeks in, and she diagnosed a sinus infection. I was prescribed antibiotics and a steroid nasal spray, but neither really helped. She said my chest was completely clear, and my cough was due to mucus dripping down my throat from my nose. Bleurgh. That was the first time I had been to the GP in four years, which I think shows how desperate I was!

Oh no judy ten weeks sounds unbearable! I just can't believe how awful it's been this timeSad

pink after about five days I was over the truly wretched stage, that came back on Christmas Day (nice), then again in the second week of January. It was after that I went to the doctor. I had about three weeks where I couldn’t smell or taste anything at all. It’s the first time I have ever lost weight over Christmas!

Have you tried a Neti pot?

Not only did using one cure my chronic sinus issues, it nips colds in the early stages and clears you out when you are bunged up.

Mine started with extremely aching legs about five weeks ago. Knew then I was getting something. Sneezing constantly, runny nose feeling shattered. Was o.k. for a couple of days but its back with a vengeance now. This is the fourth week. Fed up.

I had a cold a couple of weeks ago and it started with a raging high temperature that me bundled up with duvets and my teeth still chattering. Then for the next couple of days it felt like I had lead weights attached to my legs as well as the usual runny / snotty nose.

Luckily it was over fairly quickly and a few days later I was nearly back to normal.

Oh I wish! Thought Id got rid of it on Friday, but started the sneezing and wobbly legs again at the weekend!!!! Fed up
