Which vaccines do you let your baby have?

Hi Everyone, I'm currently pregnant with my first (its a girl) and have recently become aware that some people don't vaccinate their children or only vaccinate them against some diseases e.g. meningitis but not others like flu or MMR.
I was just wondering if any other expectant mothers found the same thing, or if anyone has any advice!
This is a whole new world of me and I'm confused!

OP posts:
Lou0390 · 17/02/2019 21:27

All of them why wouldn't you?

Biancadelrioisback · 17/02/2019 21:28

Can you give one reason why not to have them all?

PaintBySticker · 17/02/2019 21:30

All of them. If the NHS offers it we say yes. Because I want to protect them and others from preventable diseases.

I’ve never met anyone in real life who didn’t. Odd how they seem to be quite a feature on the internet ...

PlinkPlink · 17/02/2019 21:54

All of them.

Every single one.

Irresponsible not to.

If you really must call it into question, research it thoroughly. By that I mean read scientific journals and look at the evidence. Not a bunch of opinions spread about om anti-vax websites or groups. Not a bunch of vague comments like 'its been proven to cause this and this'. Actively fucking question where is this information from, is it a credible source, is it based in facts?

Seriously, the discomfort for your child really does not last long. They cry and get grizzly. Mine slept through most of the day and fed. Calpol and Nurofen kept temp down for MenB. That was it.
I'd take that over my child dying from a preventable illness any day of the week.

golddigga · 17/02/2019 21:55

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow FFS do you have children??

CocoDeMoll · 17/02/2019 22:01

Most of them. Flu and tb (when I was on London this was offered) ones no. I haven’t gone for the third lot of the normal ones they have post birth as me and anti vax dh are on a stand off.

Wouldn’t get chicken pox one and i didn’t have the whooping cough when pg. very on the fence about the whole thing.

You can join FB page called Arnica which is anti vax and has peer reviewed studies etc to help you get a balanced opinion.

colourrunruinedmyhair · 17/02/2019 22:04

I vaccinate against everything. I love my children more than anyone or anything else in the world and want to protect them against everything I can, including diseases that can be fatal and are preventable by immunisations.

KissingInTheRain · 17/02/2019 22:05

I hope I’m wrong, but I’m expecting the OP to come back and say, “well, I know what you’re all saying, but I’ve heard that...[insert anti-vaxx nonsense]”

BertrandRussell · 17/02/2019 22:07

“You can join FB page called Arnica which is anti vax and has peer reviewed studies etc to help you get a balanced opinion.”

That is not a balanced opinion .

Ribbonsonabox · 17/02/2019 22:09

I didnt get the chicken pox one as it's not offered for free on the NHS... I looked into paying for it but from what I read it seemed a bit pointless unless your child had some reason why chicken pox would be more severe than usual for them. Otherwise it seemed like the negatives of it cancelled out the positives so it was just a pointless thing to waste money on.

My children have had all the NHS vaccines including the flu jab (spray)

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 17/02/2019 22:10

Every one of the free ones. And i paid additional for chicken pox and meningitis too. To the tune of about €500 extra. That’s how much i value vaccinations. Because when you see your 5 week old child critically ill with a disease that cannot be vaccinated against you realise how important it is to vaccinate against the preventable ones.

Ribbonsonabox · 17/02/2019 22:12

Oh and they both have had the men B one as well because they were both born after it was offered. I also had the whooping cough jab both pregnancies.
I haven't had the hpc vaccine I'm too old but my daughter will have it and my son if it gets offered to boys.

yodelsay · 17/02/2019 22:23

My 2 DS 14&15 have had all plus Men B, Men A,C,W,Y, and HPV, flu vaccine. Also DS 14 had chicken pox vaccine as, despite many exposures, he hadn't had CP by age 11 so I decided to vaccinate.
Why would anyone not protect their kids?! HPV cost me £360 per child, but it's worth it.

Ribbonsonabox · 17/02/2019 22:27

@yodelsay Can you pay for a boy to have the HPV vaccine? Where do you get it from and how old should they be?

katycb · 17/02/2019 22:29

All of them!
One of my issues with Antivaxers is the shortsighted view of what they term "mild" illness. My godson caught measles before he had his jab, he is now hearing impaired because of the ilness . Why would anyone risk it?

glitterbiscuits · 17/02/2019 22:33

All of them or you can move to an uninhabited island.

Rarotonga · 17/02/2019 23:03

All of those on the NHS schedule. Plus chicken pox at 1 year.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 17/02/2019 23:06

All of them. My daughter is older so we also paid for Meningitis B (your baby will be eligible for this on the NHS) and Chicken Pox.

strawberrypenguin · 17/02/2019 23:08

All of them.

TheClitterati · 17/02/2019 23:10

All of the NHS ones.
I let them both get the actual chicken pox rather than vax for that.

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/02/2019 23:12

All of them.

Runwayqueen · 17/02/2019 23:13

Up until dd was 4, she has had everything that was on the schedule. Unknown to us at the time though she was suffering with one of the periodic fever syndromes. She can't have the flu spray as a result, although next season she may be allowed the flu jab instead

clary · 17/02/2019 23:23

All of them if course.

Like another poster, I am old enough to have had measles and mumps, everyone got these horrible and potentially fatal illnesses back then (1970s). How amazing that now they are basically eliminated, science is wonderful! Why would you not have the vaccines?

ReaganSomerset · 17/02/2019 23:25

All of them.

yodelsay · 18/02/2019 05:48

Ribbonsonabox yes you can pay at a private GP. But also at Lloyd's pharmacy I think. It's really expensive. I think all Yr 8 boys are getting it this year, announced last July. 15 and under they have to have it's twice, over 16 they have to have 3. I started a different thread about it last year and there was some really good advice from other mumsnetters. HTH.
