HELP - ds won't drink anything!

Any help welcome. DS1 (20 mo) is on antibiotics for a respiratory chest infection and is refusing to drink anything. I've tried water, juice, rehydration drink, ice lollies, straws, his cups, my cup. I've also tried giving him blueberries (his fave fruit) but he won't take them either. He's off his food and has been a bit sick over the past few days (because of congested chest/coughing rather than tummy bug). I'm avoiding too much milk because it seems to make the congestion worse. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm out of ideas.

How long since he had a drink?
If all he will take is milk I'd say it's better than nothing, in the short term.

Ice cubes?

cadelaide · 05/07/2007 12:53

sponge in the bath?

Can you squirt water into his mouth with a medicine dosing syringe?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/07/2007 12:57

Try these, but if it doesn't work take him to hospital. They can give him iv fluids.
Better than nothing, as traumatic as it would be.

Is he alright?

midnightexpress · 06/07/2007 21:15

yes, thanks - panic over! He's still pretty full of gunk and groggy with the abs, but scarfed a bowl of pasta at dinner time, and drinking again so I reckon we're over the worst of it . Though ds2 (5mo) has now got the same nasty infection and sounds really chesty. And boy has he got a pair of lungs on him, so could be a good weekend. But hopefully as he's still bf we won't come up against the same problem at least.

Thanks for your concern, and advice.
