What this burning feeling in my throat

My GP has referred me for an urgent gastroscopy as I'm struggling with digestion problems and find it really hard to swallow food as if there's a burning lump in my oesophagus. This happens mostly at our evening meal and it's been getting worse over a few years from once a month to every other day. It eases if I drink water and force it past this this burning area. My digestive system seems full of wind and gurgles and I get a lot of acid indigestion too. I've tried to deal with it myself by looking to see what triggers it and avoiding these foods it but it seems to have flared up recently.

Does anyone have similar symptoms?

Yes I have similar symptoms, how are you now? Have you had the gastroscopy yet?

I get this from stomahc ulcers and acid reflux (though I never feel the reflux, just the tightness in the throat.

I find it helps to avoid alcohol, fatty foods and sugar. If I give them up completely the lump goes down. Also, try sleeping on raised pillows, so your chest is propped up on one pillow and your head and shoulders on two. That eases it at night a bit.

Yes and horrendous pain in chest. Prescribed PPI's but I suffered horrible side effects- real dizziness, unbalanced. Gastroscopy saw no problems. Had an ultrasound that showed gallstones ( they apparently in the gallbladder so should not be causing this pain apparently!?!) and lots of gas in stomach. I won't go anywhere without Gaviscon and Rennies but I get little relief. Doctors just push the PPI's. Ranitidine doesn't touch it.
Hope you got some answers.

Hi Thanks for replying. I had the gastroscopy this Saturday morning. I didn't have sedation just the spray to numb it though I gagged when the tube went in.

it seems from the initial diagnosis that my oesophagus is inflamed and I’ve got GORD and a hiatus hernia. They took some biopsies to check and I've been given 4 weeks of omaprazole and I’ve to go back in 4 weeks and see how it’s going.

I think it’s been exacerbated by long running building work on our house and not having a working kitchen for some of this time. Also I had an awful hacking cough/ cold virus after Xmas - as my mum would say - I’m probably run down!

The advice I got from the hospital is to eat little and often and avoid spicy and acidic foods. Oh, and to try to lose weight!!

I’ve been worrying all week about it thinking the worst.

You'll be relieved you've had some answers.
I found the gastroscopy 'difficult' shall I say! Certainly was relieved when it was over! I'd certainly be sedated if was ever a next time.
It's good that you have a diagnosis and the Omeprazole will help you heal( wish I could take it). Hopefully knowing it's not anything v v sinister will ease your stress and in turn ease your GORD, and true, upheaval of building work and kitchen situation won't have helped in any way.
Good luck with finding what works for you.
