Blood in urine - could it not be cancer?

Hello,
My DH saw blood in his urine on Tuesday. He rang up for a doctor's appointment and because he mentioned this he got one the same day. He did a urine test which was sent off. We assumed a UTI. However, the doctor called him yesterday at 5pm to say the test showed no sign of an infection and he has been referred for further tests. He's 39 and worried sick it's bladder cancer as it's the first thing that comes up on Google. Has anyone had a similar experience and it has been something else? A UTI has been ruled out now. Thank you in advance.

Hi I'm 42 n just gone through this.
Had my kidney ultrasound and cystoscopy yesterday and day before n all clear.

My urine was sent off, no infection only blood found.

Does he smoke, have family history of cancer or does he exercise.
Consultant I seen yesterday said it's extremely common.
Mine was microscopic haematuria.

Chances are at 39 it's nothing, but definitely get it checked.
Maybe get renal bloods done too.

Hi, my DH has something similar recently. Blood in urine after going for a run. We thought infection but that came back clear. He had the scan and cystoscopy but they found nothing. Doctor said this just happens sometimes and is unexplained. I’m guessing a burst blood vessel or something?

I do think it’s quite common. Happened to a friend and again for her it was just unexplained.

Another here but microscopic so can't be seen in the toilet bowl. Had all the gold standard tests and all negative.

Please don't google, that will only lead you to yourfucked.com which is unhelpful when you are worrying anyway.

It's very unlikely to be anything but in the tiniest chance it's something they will prob refer for a cystoscopy to rule it out.

Please try not to worry.

Thank you so much for your positive responses. He's not a smoker and there's no family history. He doesn't exercise at all other than being on his feet all day in a hospitality job.
I'm hoping it's like what has been mentioned and is a burst blood vessel or similar. The doctor also mentioned a kidney stone was a possibility. I think what made DH panic more was when the doctor said He's not ruling out cancer at this stage. I said I thought that wasn't very helpful as there are many other things it could be but I suppose he has to cover himself.
We're just waiting for the referral letter for the tests now. Thank you all Flowers
