Child with ‘small skull fracture and small bleed’

In hospital with ds2 who is 4. He fell off his scooter yesterday and was blue lighted to hospital. He was v drowsy at first and ct scan revealed a small fracture and a small bleed. In hospital overnight and another scan today revealed the bleed is slightly bigger than yesterday. Doc telling me it’s only veins rather than arteries which is a good thing - like a bruise but under the skin - but waiting for specialists from another hospital to check out the scan. He’s asleep now but has been his usually lively self all day today which doc also says is a good sign. He’s needed no pain meds since this morning. Any positive words? I’m obviously panicking and worried sick.

I’m sorry I haven’t got anything useful to add but just wanted to bump or you so that others might see post.
Hope DS recovers really quickly.

Aww, I'm sorry op.. I'd be worried sick too..
But from the sounds of things he should make a full recovery :)
I hope your not in too much longer Thanks

He is in the right place. I imagine that if they were especially concerned they would be sedating him to revent him being his normal lively self. They wont be taking any chances and be adopting a belt and braces approach.

All that is my non medical opinion but hope an outsiders view provides some reassurance xx

Thank you. We are waiting for the scans to be gone over again by a specialist unit at another hospital and they will let us know after that. He’s still in good spirits so they think that’s a good sign.

Glad all looking positive OP - it must have been a very worrying time for you.

Glad he’s feeling better. My DD gave herself a nasty concussion falling over at school last year, thankfully no fracture or bleeding but I still remember how scary it was. Hope he makes a good recovery soon Flowers

We are still in hospital, he’s fine but they want to monitor him for a few days. I go from being ok to being worried sick.

Being in hospital for a few days with children is tough, especially with a head injury. Fingers crossed he doesn't show any further signs of concussion and goes home asap! It sounds positive that they want to monitor him.
