I'm about to leave work early. Acute pain in my left side. It feels like it's at the bottom of my pelvic bone. It feels sort of crsmpy but constant and sitting down was unbearable. I've drunk some water, taken Ibuprofen and walked about. It's slightly more bearable but still very painful. I don't typically suffer from menstrual cramps - just a few times a year. Can they be suddenly awful and on one side only or could this be something else?

Sounds a little bit like my ovulation pains. Always on one side too. I’ve found a hot water bottle can help.

I think you need to go to the doctors OP, it could be a burst ovarian cyst or any number of other things. We are packed quite tightly down there with womb, bladder etc, so it's difficult to say. I had something similar recently and was sent for a scan (it was on my right side though), turned out my coil has shifted and was stabbing me. I really wouldn't leave it though, make an appointment asap. Good luck!

Could you be pregnant, just trying to rule out ectopic pregnancy.
Any other symptoms, ? Uti

everyanswer · 01/02/2019 08:53

No. Unlikely to be pregnant. I'm mid 40s and DH had vasectomy long ago. I currently have my period so perhaps it is a new level of pain nature has unleashed on me as I head towards menopause.

I'm fairly in tune with my body so I'll remain aware and see Dr if it happens again at different point of my cycle.

I'm 45 and have recently started getting this in place of my normal period pains. I real deep stabbing intense pain in my let side. When i get it i know my period will start exactly 2 days later. I have just put it down to as you eloquently put it, - a new level of pain nature has unleashed "Grin on a lighter note my actual periods are much lighter and shorter now. So that's something.

I do get ovarian pain in the middle of my cycle. Have done since my 20s. It felt like the pain was in a different place yesterday. If I feel any twinges again where I felt the pain yesterday, I will seek out a medical opinion. Thanks everyone.

Are ovarian cysts dangerous Francis ?

EhlanaOfElenia · 01/02/2019 12:08

Kidney stone? I feel pain on my left side from them. I start off thinking it might be indigestion, or period pain, maybe ovulation pain. It gradually gets worse over a few hours, and then BAM, it's over. The pain I reach and the length of time it takes depends on the size of the stone.

Afterwards I feel a bit of bruising and what feels like 'remembered' pain.

MegaBat · 01/02/2019 12:09

I would consider fibroids actually.

Maybe make a GP appointment and request a scan of the area. You'll then know if it's something you need to be concerned about - so get that appointment and don't be fobbed off

Ovarian cycts can be dangerous. If they get too big, they can twist the ovary around and cut off its blood supply (v bad) big ones can also rupture and put pus and gunk into the abdominal cavity (also v bad). The problem is that small ones can also hurt and then just disapate over the month. You can only really tell if a cyst is a problem with an ultrasound.

Yes. Good point. Womens concerns ought not to be minimised to 'just what happens to women' proper investigation is deserved. I will pay attention and make a gp appointment if Ibfeel anything there.
