Anxiety - can you recommend a medication that might help?

I have been feeling very low with waves of anxiety recently due to circumstances. I plan to go to my doctor, but I would like to hear of anyone who has found a medication helpful for this? I am worried about side effects, particularly weight gain.

I've taken Wilko's own stress relief tabs and find they help a little

Have had a massive anxiety disorder for years. Have tried everything natural /over the counter in existence. Nothing made the slightest bit of difference.

Started on Sertraline a couple of months ago and it has made a real, solid, noticeable difference.

I wish I'd tried it years ago.

For specific anxiety provoking situations, I find Rescue Remedy does work for me. Eg, making a presentation. But that is building on CBT which sorted my thinking habits out. Horrible place to be. Hope you find something that works for you very soon OP.

I also had good luck with sertraline when I had anxiety and depression. I also found that beta blockers, such as propanolol were helpful with the physical symptoms - racing heart/sweating etc.

They come in a slow release form, or you can take a short release form just before you go into a stressful situation. No weight gain on either.

Propranolol for anxiety
Magnesium and melatonin also helps sleep and anxiety as well, but I buy low dose melatonin over the counter in France.

I couldn’t take sertraline, turns out I can’t tolerate SSRI’s :( however I started a small amount of amitryptoline and it went away within a week. I’ve been on it ever since. I don’t know how it works as it shouldn’t at 10mg but it does for me

Also headspace - The app. Absolutely amazing
