DS1 had d&v on fri evening and was a bit off colour.
Woke up yesterday and ran a temp all day and night quite quiet and not himself apart from the odd few minutes, was shivering when I put him to bed after his bath. He didn't eat much but did drink a bit.
Today again he is like yesterday, slightly more subdued.
I managed to find the dummy thermometer we have, which is reading 39C + each time.
He had 2 x 10mls calpol yesterday and 1 x 10mls today.
He is only wearing pants and keeps lying on the sofa. Hot head, belly and back, not so bad on his arms and legs. He looks sleepy & unwell too.
No sign of a rash or discolouration to his skin.

Do I call out of hours Dr or NHS direct or see how he is later this evening?

how old is he? keep and eye on him - have you got any nurofen you could give him?

my ds has just lay down on the couch for a nap (v unlike him!). Have just taken his temp and it's 40C!

THere must be some vile bug doing the rounds.

Tentiebug · 01/07/2007 16:50

sorry, yes he's 2yrs 4mths

Hope your DS gets rid of the bug quickly!

No nurofen, only calpol in the house.

he can have more calpol can't he, your ds? (it's 4 doses they can have per day I think)

foxinsocks · 01/07/2007 17:05

hmmm I don't know, I think you have to be the judge of how poorly he appears...

if the calpol brings his temp down a bit and he starts to perk up, I'd leave it till tomorrow

if he's still acting all lethargic despite another calpol dose, then it might be worth giving the out of hours doc a call

remember to keep him drinking

Tentiebug · 01/07/2007 17:08

He can have more, I'm spacing them out 6 hrly as I'm giving him them max ml's. He's not due any more till around 8 at bed time.

He does get a bit of energy for a few minutes to play with toys on the floor or look out the window, then he comes and flakes on the sofa till he musters up more energy.

Well, he's perked up again now, temp has come down. He had his drink, a sandwich, a few crisps and 2 biscuits.
I am expecting his temp to peak again though at some point.
Hope to get him in bed by 7.45

He peaked again in the night, woke up twice. Came into our room this morning 6.30 still hot. Still reading 38+. I'm hoping to get to Dr's this morning as this is his 3rd day.

how's he doing tentie?

ds had a v high temp for about 48 hours, was completely wiped out (just slept and slept) and has woken up this morning and is much better.

Of course, dd now has it (arrghh) and dh got it yesterday. They have obviously had some weird flu like virus.

(have awarded myself a martyr badge ).

Tentiebug · 03/07/2007 09:41

He still getting spikes in his temp, took him to Dr yesterday, did a thorough check on him, said to keep giving calpol. No need for antib's as nothing obvious sprung out at him. Didn't see the need for hospital as he was hydrated.
He had a bad night Sunday, not too bad yesterday till the evening when he looked ill & hot again and didn't eat. Bit better today but still not right.
