Hi! Has anyone noticed real benefits from fasting? Improved energy and immune system? Would love to know. I’m considering trying it so would really appreciate reading anyone’s thoughts.

TIA Smile

What health problems are you trying to deal with?

Catching every bug going and fatigue mainly.

I'm 16-8ing right now, and feel fine on it - only for a week so far though, and it's winter and the lack of light is a thing, so I wouldn't say I'm feeling any benefits sleep-wise yet.

I find that I feel less tired and need less sleep when low-carbing, and staying away from dairy (which is a pity, because, well, cheese).

I have been 16:8 big for two weeks and also veggie in the week. I’ve lost 5lbs but I do have a cold Confused

I’m doing 16:8 (actually usually 18:6) for weight loss rather than health reasons. I haven’t noticed any particular benefits really other than the weight loss.

DH fasts for 16 hours a day. He says he feels better and has been reading some medical research papers about it. Apparently it improves cognitive function

I have fasted for some time and really the only tangible thing I would say I have achieved is weight loss (not that that's no great of course, but I can't really say I've noticed increased energy for example).

However I do feel the process of learning how to do intermittent fasting has really helped embed healthy habits such as never snacking (I was a big snacker on cakes and biscuits at work and in the evening) and learning to recognise the difference between genuine hunger, peckishness, thirst, boredom and emotion/stress. For these reasons I stick to one 500 cal fast day a week and a general 16:8 pattern of eating even when not actively trying to lose weight. Maybe head over to the 5:2 board for some more help and advice?

Thanks everyone 😊
