Despair/depression on first day of period?

Ugh I just want to know I'm not alone even though I wouldn't wish this on anyone. My periods seem to make me feel more emotional and down the older I get (I'm 35).

The last few cycles I feel really down, today in the space of an hour I have thought about jacking my job in and running away to my Mums Shock yesterday I was fine, just a bit tired, day before I was making holiday plans with my friend. Is this bloody normal? It's like a horrible feeling of despair that nothing is worth it but it's always around the first day of my period.

Hi I've just posted about severe PMS in the women's health forum on here. My moods between ovulation and my period are as you describe. I feel flat, hopeless etc. It normally lifts from day 2 of my period

Hi @Verytired2019 sorry to hear that, thanks for the reply. I'll have a look at your thread thanks! Yeah similar to me, it lifts around the second day. I'm just worried because it seems to be getting worse. Do you do or take anything for it?

Thank you.

Dysphoria? Is it a hormonal thing? Do you get sudden rushes of a homesick, empty, hopeless, feeling for no reason that come and go but only last a short amount of time? I've got DMER which apparently linked... and I get the same feeling the day before I come on my period. Apparently it's a dopamine crash.

Hi @Ribbonsonabox Yes it sounds like that, I get a feeling of wanting to pack up and run away either to Mums or my home town and it seems to come on really suddenly and then go quickly. It frightened me a bit today though, I just felt so overwhelmed when there's no reason to be. I've not felt that bad before. I cried at work (in office alone) which I've not done before.

I remember an old friend said she used to feel like this before her period, she would think about leaving her boyfriend for no reason and feel overwhelmed and then it would lift.

I'll look into what you mentioned, thank you.

Hi OP, I've just started taking an SSRI as my low moods etc we're kicking in just after ovulation as well as leading up to my period so pretty full on.
Only a fortnight in but hoping to see an improvement in the coming weeks
