Is this such a thing as a private breast clinic open on a Sunday? Freaking out here

As my title really. I found a lump in my right breast last night. It's small ish, smooth, kind of mobile I suppose.
I'm 47 and periods are normal.

I've been awake worrying all night. Never had anything like this before and I'm almost certain it wasn't there last week.

Is there any private clinic that runs on a Sunday? Is that a stupid question? I don't have private health care but I can pay to be seen privately if it's not too prohibitive. I'm not sure my mental health could take a 2 week wait!

You don’t say where you are, but even in London I don’t think you’d find anything you could access on a Sunday. Plenty of private places open tomorrow though! AFAIK a mobile lump is likely to be benign. Try not to freak out, OP!

I know it must be scary but start with your gp tomorrow. I don't personally know of any private breast clinics, though I suspect you could ring any of the big providers (like spire, Bupa, meridian) and ask to be seen but ime it would still end up routing through your gp. The two week wait is the "max" so if you're flexible about where you're seen your gp might be able to get you seen much quicker than that and can offer support and reassurance.

Is there any one who can be with you today while you feel wobbly. It's much more likely to be absolutely nothing but I know it's hard to accept that

Call BUPA they can often put you in front of an expert within 24 hours for breast issues. Cost is about £100

I know I know. Dunno why I thought somewhere would be open today. I just hoped I suppose! I'm in oxford.

I can't stop prodding myself and I'm super tired and teary. Maybe I'm imagining that it moves? It does a bit though I think.

I can call Nuffield tomorrow I think - they do a twice weekly breast clinic and it's a couple of hundred quid. First clinic Thursday

I found a similar lump a couple of years ago. Saw GP the next day, they referred me straight to the breast clinic and they rang that day with an appointment and I was seen within a week. Although 2 weeks sounds a long time and it's natural to stress and worry and jump to the worst conclusion, I found the NHS pathway was brilliant and I knew within 2 weeks that it was a cyst! They aspirated it so it would be gone and I'd stop worrying. Going private may be slightly quicker but I found NHS really good too. Good luck Xx

@Bobbino I'm glad you had a positive outcome. I know that 9 out of 10 lumps seen are nothing and of the ones that's are something, 9 out of 10 of those are curable

Seeing someone today might not even help. They might have inconclusive results or might be able to do all the tests so you just come back with not enough answers. You could need somewhere that offers mammogram & ultrasound & biopsy (yes I had all 3) & then you have to wait weeks and you need to talk to a consultant who really understands what each result means.

There are good reasons to go thru formal channels. Odds are GP will see you tomorrow & that's fast enough to start the sequence.

My lump was nothing at all, and obviously deflating after 3 weeks. What a waste to have people look at it & all those tests.

Bobbino that’s interesting information. I’m pretty ‘lumpy’ since breastfeeding (have been through your stress, OP!) & had private scans done to establish I had cysts. I didn’t know about NHS doing aspiration...

@YeOldeTrout I know. But the private clinic in oxford runs all tests and results on same day so I guess all I'd be wasting is my own time and money.

Smooth and mobile are good signs - mine was nothing interesting, just breast tissue that felt 'different' under my fingers.

Go to your GP and get a two-week referral: if it's anything like the care at our local trust it'll be quick, and excellent.

The breast clinic at Oxford is excellent. If you get an emergency appointment with your GP tomorrow, you'll be seen really quickly (I think it's still at the Churchill). Nuffield will be able to help you sooner though. Both times Ive been seen within a week.

Yes, paying for the 'one stop clinic' just means everything is done there and then - exactly the same as at the NHS one - but you're paying to be seen quicker I suppose.

I say if you can afford it and it will hopefully set your mind at ease then go and get it done. Try not to worry op.

I found a lump on the Saturday, saw the gp on the Monday, was at the one stop breast clinic on the Friday. I had the examination, mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy and saw the consultant all by 2pm that day.
I was in hospital having surgery 9 days later. It could have been even earlier but I had a weekend away booked.
This was only 2 years ago at my local NHS hospital.
My point is going private doesn’t necessarily mean you will be seen or treated more quickly, and if you need treatment you may not be offered all the other support such as breast care nurses and counselling. The 2 week fast track referral process was amazing in my case.

I’m absolutely fine now, by the way. It was scary at the time, and it’s hard not to think the worst possible outcome. Stay off Dr Google!

Use the NHS service, it’s free and excellent. It’s maximum 2 week wait, usually faster and usually better.

That's what I did, until I made it sore, which scared me even more. Try to leave it alone!

I tackled a room that needed good sort out as a distraction. Maybe today’s the day to spring clean something, or sort out the loft? Anything to keep busy 💐

I'm ok at the moment. Was teary half an hour ago and now ok again. I've given myself an upset stomach which has been a lot of fun
