I need to see the doctor don't I? *Embarrassing*

Okay, so I've got hemorrhoids. I got them during childbirth (2 years ago) and basically they've reappeared last week and they hurt so much!
I've only pooped twice this week (usually very regular) and it feels like I'm popping thorns. I've been using cream for the last few days but I'm just generally sore and uncomfortable! Sorry for the TMI!

I'm so embarrassed to go to the drs. I genuinely hate the idea! I know they dont care and have seen it all before but it's so undignified and humiliating. I need to go don't I?
Can I try anything else at home first?

Just go to the doctors and get the good stuff. They can give you something much stronger than you can get over the counter.

Sad but I don't want to childish whinge

Ouch.

If just speak to your local pharmacy first. Doctors will look at you but as you know what it is you might be able to get something else over the counter first.

If not call the doctor for a phone appointment and they will let you know if you need to go in.

I hope they feel better soon.

Anusol cream, non-constipating painkillers (paracetamol, ibuprofen) and laxatives to keep your stools nice and soft, but otherwise it is just time that is going to make these better.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

SailAwayWithMeHuni · 09/01/2019 22:06

Are you drinking enough water as I find mine flare up when I’m dehydrated.

I found germaloids cream better than anusol and witch hazel is amazing at helping with the pain.

mrsdolittle · 09/01/2019 22:14

Go to the GP. They can give you cream and suppositories that are way better than the ones you can buy over the counter.

They will have seen it all before sooooo many times. And when I went the GP didn't even need to look "down there".

Make an appointment ASAP - you won't regret it I promise.

When I was pregnant with dd2 I had them. And stabbing pain that stopped me sleeping.

Phoned the gp and she left a prescription for steroid cream for me.

All done over the phone. And it worked quickly.

elephantoverthehill · 09/01/2019 22:21

Have you a practice nurse? Much quicker to get an appointment and she (in my surgery) will be able to print a prescription for what is needed.

PlonkyPlink · 09/01/2019 22:22

GP here. Vast majority of what we can prescribe is available over the counter. Get some suppositories as well as cream from the chemist. Buy some lactulose or laxido/movicol from the chemist to make your poo soft and easy to pass. Drink lots. But do see your GP if it’s not getting better, I know it’s embarrassing, but I look at several bums and vaginas every day.

Good luck.

elephantoverthehill · 09/01/2019 22:26

PlonkyPlink (sorry to derail the thread slightly) how did you come up with that user name. It made me laugh because my best friend and I still refer to some types of music as 'Plinkyplonk'. Grin

Biancadelriosback · 09/01/2019 23:09

Hmmm I have a hydration problem generally so I don't really drink that much water.
My bladder is so weak that I end up having to crouch down and waddle to the loo after every drink. Been to the doctors so many times and just get told drink little and often and my bladder will soon get stronger. Oh and pelvic floor exercises. Makes no difference so I've just learned how to crack on!

I've still got some of that orange stuff you mix with water (I call it my poo powder), so will give that a go and I'll make an appointment.

I am just assuming they're hemorrhoids... I've had a look (had to use several mirrors and a torch Blush) and compared to google images (not recommended by the way!) and they look right, symptoms match etc. No idea what else if could be!!

legolimb · 09/01/2019 23:12

Is it definitely piles and not a fissure?

That is the more painful issue - feels like pooing broken glass, and the pains can linger for hours afterwards.

Go and get it looked at. I have had lots of bottom treatments and find showing my bum less intrusive than getting a smear.

Good luck!

Longdistance · 09/01/2019 23:19

Ice is very good for shrinking piles. I had them in clusters when dd1 was born, they were throbbing. Ice worked wonders. That and I was prescribed diclofenac to reduce the swelling.

shiningstar2 · 09/01/2019 23:28

i was in agony years ago with piles. Literally couldn't sit down. Would stand commuting on an empty train. Found germaloid worked best both cream and suppositories. Did see a doctor but didn't get anything which worked better than this. Cream stung slightly but did work. Good luck op.

squishee · 09/01/2019 23:35

My family used to call some music plinkyplonk too! Kind of jazzy piano stuff?

Sorry to collude in derailing!

PlonkyPlink · 10/01/2019 22:02

@elephantoverthehill, I really wanted to be “ninkynonk” (from In the Night Garden) but that was taken so tried plinkyplonk (yes, as in music!) which was also taken, so just turned that around. Smile

Hope you’re better today OP.

elephantoverthehill · 10/01/2019 22:26

squishee and PlonkyPlink so it is a confirmed and bona fide musical genre, mostly involving the pianoforte. I hope you have found some relief OP.

MissMalice · 10/01/2019 22:28

I got some from the GP. They were way better that OTC ones. It also wasn’t nearly as embarrassing as I thought it was going to be and I really hate things like that.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 11/01/2019 07:03

I suffer from them occasionally. I just use Anusol cream and it clears it right up!

marthastew · 11/01/2019 07:13

What if someone you cared about had a painful condition that could be easily sorted with a visit to the GP?

What would you say to them?

I always think about this when I'm not taking care of myself as I should.

Thanks
