Breakthrough Breast Cancer are doing a long-term study into the causes of breast cancer and are needing to enrol over 100,000 women in the UK. The study involves filling in detailed lifestyle questionnaires over the years and giving a blood sample. It sounds like a very worthwhile study - to find out more and to join go to Breakthrough Generations

Just requested mine too. What a good thread geekgrrl. We all have possibly been touched by breast cancer in some way or another and this I find a great way of actively becoming involved in helping to find a cure for this disease. Thank you.

Me too. Shall take part in study.

MancMum · 08/10/2004 14:06

anybody received their pack yet - I registered ages ago - not sure what is going on with this?

katzguk · 08/10/2004 14:11

thanks for the original link - i read this in the newspaper the day we burried my MIL who had died from breast cancer and obviosuly wasn't in a fit state to do anything. Couldn't find the link to join so thanks.

KateandtheGirls · 08/10/2004 14:44

Thanks for the link. I can't participate because I'm not in the UK, but I'm going to send the link to my family there. My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer almost 3 years ago and has made a full recovery and is now cancer free, so my sisters probably will be very willing to take part.

charliecatthenonsmoker · 14/10/2004 15:43

Got my stuff today...did anyone else? Havent looked at it but looks like a form and a blood test...that was a quick glance through

zubb · 14/10/2004 15:45

still no sign here - but my sister who applied after me got hers about a week ago. Will wait a week and phone them I think.

Dingle · 14/10/2004 15:50

Still waiting too!!

luckymum · 14/10/2004 15:51

And me!!

Frieda · 14/10/2004 16:06

I've just done it ? I understand they're looking for 100,000 women, so it will be a huge study (but I'm sure it will take a while to process everyone.

charliecatthenonsmoker · 14/10/2004 16:33

Oh Thank You btw Dingle, its a bit long to type in but it reminds me everytime I type it in that I am a nonsmoker

charliecatthenonsmoker · 14/10/2004 16:34

Read the pack now and got my form back in the envelope saying I will participate. Going to try and rope my mum and sister etc in too!

winnie1 · 14/10/2004 17:15

I've been meaning to do thgis since I heard about it on womans hour thanks for reminding me.

charliecatthenonsmoker · 15/10/2004 22:48

Bump for this.

susanmt · 16/10/2004 03:55

How long did your packs take to come? Just as a rough guide? Its just that I have to have a blood test sometime soon anyway and so if they want my blood then it would be handier for me to do it at the same time! Just wondered how long the pack would take to arrive (I requested it on 5th Oct and no sign as yet).. thanks.

moomina · 16/10/2004 08:43

Got my letter this morning and have sent off for the questionnaire - I must admit I'd forgotten I'd requested it.

pixiefish · 16/10/2004 08:52

Had my pack last week some time and have started filling the form in. I think it took about a month to come through. I'm going to take the form in to work and see if I can get some of the other women to participate

libb · 16/10/2004 08:54

I haven't had mine, despite doing it twice by mistake - shall I do it again?

pixiefish · 16/10/2004 09:09

when did you order it? Mine took time to come through

charliecatthenonsmoker · 16/10/2004 09:13

No idea about the blood test or the pack arriving im afraid. Im sure the pack will come soon, loads of women will have requested them and itll be a case of when someone gets to you name on the pile.

libb · 16/10/2004 09:15

The day before this thread was posted . . . think I will to be sure. My nan had breast cancer so it is important to me. If I end up with three then I will take two into work
