Hello everyone,

Welcome to the new thread. Our previous one is here.

Anyone with any cancer is welcome, or anyone waiting for tests because they might have cancer. If you're new, just jump in wherever. Don't feel you need to catch up with previous posts. We talk a lot! Ask any questions you need to. Someone will hopefully have an answer. And feel free to post photos of cute pets too.

Whether you're new or not, it's helpful to post a little introduction on the new thread to save people trying to remember everyone's different diagnosis and treatment.

Afternoon lacies whoever was asking about unwired bras I've been told they may be ok 6 months post op.
@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo those games sound good. I'm slowly integrating DD I into them she's 8 and a complete shark. I've learn not to play for real money!
We'll have had my results from surgery today and I've had the all clear! I see the oncologist next week and is Tamoxifen to take for the next 5 years but that will do me! I know I'm ridiculously lucky and I will still be keeping up to date with the thread.
Waves to everyone else.

Ranout fabulous news...!!

mintyneb · 05/02/2019 17:47

Hi Leslie, I haven't posted on this board for a very long time. I have a read occasionally and yours is always the first name I look for. I'm so sorry that things have taken a turn for the worse.

The time, support and love you have given to everyone on these threads - complete strangers- is both outstanding and humbling at the same time.

You helped me through the dark days of my BC diagnosis in 2014 and again, when it returned 2 years later. I'm doing ok now but will always have neuropathy in my fingers which I struggle with one way or another most days.

But I think I got off quite lightly compared to others so mustn't complain too much. My focus now is keeping DD as well as possible for as long as possible (she has cystic fibrosis).

But Leslie you are in my thoughts and will be more so now. Take care

purpleunicorns · 05/02/2019 18:16

Fantastic news Ranout! I'm sooo happy for you! I hope you're celebrating right now GinGlitterball

That was the one I was going to order Leslie, I don't fancy a solid plastic lump so I'll keep looking. They can make drinking bottles that keep hot for 12 hours so hopefully someone will soon come up with a hot water bottle type thing that stays hot as long.
Although my friend has brought me a fancy socket thing so I can switch the kettle on from my phone so no standing around waiting for it to boil Grin

FlippyNeck · 05/02/2019 18:29

Ranout, that's blardy brilliant news, chuffed for you!

KeepCalm, I started wearing underwired bras again about 8 months after mx and recon, so whoever was asking, don't bin them! As an aside, if you've got 'gently worn' bras after surgery etc, there's a charity called Smalls for All who redistribute them to women in Africa.

Leslie, hope your visitors are not annoying this week! I like Monopoly Deal. We discovered Perudo and Ticket to Ride over Christmas - both good, especially Perudo.

Glad you're home Tahiti.

How are you doing TooFar - got out of the flowtron boots yet? I had them after oophorectomy last year. Torn-faced woman in the bed opposite made a fuss about the noise, asked if I 'had' to have them! As if it was some special treat for me! I got the last laugh when the nurses moved her to a busier ward - and I got the whole place to myself, as well as an impromptu performance when the nurses came back to do a dance of joy when they'd got rid of her!

Hugs to all and Purple and TQ especially. Everything crossed for trial news Purple.

Toofaroutallmylife · 05/02/2019 18:53

Flippy yes thanks, I lost the flowtron boots a couple of days ago. I’m doing ok but I’ve been really shocked how much the op knocked me sideways. I am finally getting mobile and will hopefully leave hospital tomorrow

Thymeout · 05/02/2019 19:30

Purple - I have a cheap upstairs kettle for hot water bottle and early morning cuppa. Smile

KeepCalm · 05/02/2019 19:40

@Toofaroutallmylife be kind to yourself. Am still a little floored nearly 2wks later.

The flow-leg thingies made me look like the marshmallow man lol

noodles44 · 05/02/2019 20:39

Brilliant news ranout I hope you are celebrating with a vino or fizz tonight. I assumed you would be doing the radiotherapy too, but I guess as you had a mastectomy you don't need radio too. I'm so pleased for you Grin

A cheap kettle upstairs is a brilliant idea that I may have to adopt (& keep mint tea bags upstairs as don't need milk) I love my hot water bottle. What about an electric blanket purple? I've never had one, but my grandma (who lived in Oldham in a freezing house) did and always warmed her bed up a good half hour or so before getting in it.

It has been tiring Leslie & fun too, I feel happier knowing I can ask a few friends to have the girls if I feel particularly wiped out from radiotherapy at all without feeling like I am taking the mickey. Not that I think they would have thought I was I am sure, but it doesn't feel quite such a one way street help wise now!

Waves & hello to all, am just off to slather my boob in moo goo (thanks purple as I got it on your recommendation) and probably crash out again right afterwards. Already in pj's Grin

Mrstraveller · 05/02/2019 21:17

Noodles

How are you finding the radiotherapy? I’m due to start it later this month (I’ve had a mastectomy - I’m getting everything treatment wise Smile). They will be doing the breast area and under my arm.

Just been looking at moo goo stuff on Amazon so will buy some in readiness.

Xx

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 05/02/2019 21:57

Thank you everyone. It all feels very surreal as I thought I'd have to have radiotherapy. My lymph nodes weren't affected (touch wood) so I don't need it.
Yep I've had a glass or two or fizz.
Anyway back to business! Are those boots your talking about the compression ones that are linked up to something that makes them compress? If so their bloody lovely!

Electric blankets are lovely my granny always had them and I loved them.

@noodles44 I know what you mean about asking for help, but as others have said I bet you would offer if the roles were reversed. I have a list of play dates to give back!
@Toofaroutallmylife Fingers crossed you get to go home tomorrow.

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo how you doing with visitors? Can they help your parents with tasks if needs be? I'm going to check out some of your game suggestions. I've also got my 8 year old crocheting! We'll drive my DH mad we leave snippy bits of wool and fabric all over the house!
@TwitterQueen1 and @purpleunicorns let us know about your trials.
@Pandoraslastchance how are you doing.
Waves to everyone else.

KeepCalm · 05/02/2019 22:27

@Mrstraveller i think you and I are on the same path!

TwitterQueen1 · 05/02/2019 22:54

Purple any news about the trial?
I'm at the hospital again on Thursday. Weakness and fatigue are beginning to kick in.. My arms feel like dead weights today and I walked too far. But otherwise I'm OK (I think). I'm developing tiny moles around the outside of my lips so now of course I think I've got melanoma...

Taytotots · 06/02/2019 01:35

Ranout that's brilliant news! WineFlowersCake

Purple I have an electric heat pad - like a mini electric blanket. Originally bought for our chicks but I stole it (I did get them another one!). That and a teasmaid (yes I secretly am 90 Grin).

Glitterball to everyone.

KeepCalm · 06/02/2019 06:29

AOmg @Taytotots a team aid!?! Brilliant! I haven't heard of one of those in years lol

It's a times like this I wish I drank tea/coffee. I truly am the worst coffee shop owner ever Confused

peridito · 06/02/2019 08:51

Just popping in to suggest something to buy - my speciality !

These hot cup dispensers are good for upstairs and mean you just have to stick the cup under and push button ,no lifting or pouring .
www.amazon.co.uk/Breville-HotCup-Water-Dispenser-Litre/dp/B001L5SSGQ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?psc=1&keywords=hot+cup+water+dispenser&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1549442486&sr=8-1-spons

I'd recommend the more expensive version which allows you to vary amount dispensed .

and I got a perfectly adequate kettle for £6 from Wilko last week .Regular price .

Hoping everyone had as peaceful a night as possible .

I'm not religious but listening to thought for the day on R4 was struck by the Hindu concept of dharma - sort of duty/living life to best of ability whatever cards are dealt you - and instantly those of you with terminal dx came to mind and how you are all doing this .

@babayagga hope today is over as quickly as possible ,expect the prep was the worst bit .And not being able to feed baby aggaa .

Must be horrible wondering if your cervical cancer has spread and returned ,hope results are speedy and confirm something less life threatening .
