2 week referral

Corbynscat · 30/12/2018 22:55

Saw the GP just before Christmas and he’s referred me under the two week rule but asked me to come in and see female gp for rectal examination to back up referral as he was concerned they’d cancel it without this

Symptoms have been getting worse which are
Worsening constipation, nausea, pencil thin poop, weight loss (2st12) and a folate deficiency which is not getting any better with folic acid.

I’ve had this horrible sense of foreboding too I can describe it but it’s just this sense of bad news. But should I be freaked out? I’m dreading this examination tomorrow if I’m honest.

Hi @corbynscat have you got any news on a date for a consult yet?

I've just had a letter saying I've got an mri Friday next week.

NicoAndTheNiners · 03/01/2019 15:30

And yes I did go out with my friend on NY.e and actually had a nice night.

Hope your new year was as ok as it could be with all the worry.

Borntobeamum · 03/01/2019 16:55

Hi corby and nico
I've had a recent 2 week referral and was seen on Monday at 4. I've now been referred for an endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Let's hope we can all post some positive news soon x x x 💐💐

NicoAndTheNiners · 03/01/2019 17:23

Sorry you're going through this as well. Any idea how long before you get the endoscopy and colonoscopy?

My dd had to have an endoscopy last month to confirm coeliac. She was very nervous but coped ok with it. Have the sedation!

Borntobeamum · 03/01/2019 17:51

nico I intend to! The Dr said I'd get an appointment within 2 weeks.
I had a colonoscopy 12 months ago as it was routinely offered once you get to 55. It was clear, but it was very painful and I passed out 😥
This time, Im going to ask for anything going! X

Corbynscat · 04/01/2019 10:23

Hey

Well had a phone call yesterday morning at 9am to come in for colonscopy on Sunday. A taxi turned up not long after that with all the laxatives etc. So somethings finally happened don’t know how to feel if I’m honest. I’m 29 so feels abit surreal.

So sorry you’re experiencing this @borntobeamum. I fully intend taking all the drugs on offer too Grin

@nicoandtheniners Awh I’m glad you had a good time :)! Also good to hear that you’ve had your mri appointment come through too!

Flowers for us all are in order I feel

Oysterbabe · 04/01/2019 16:33

Good luck Flowers

Corbynscat · 04/01/2019 23:30

Thanks guys!

I’ll let you know how I get on but the low fibre diet is miserable. It’s all beige food Confused

My dsis reminded me that the maternal side of our family all have/had bowel problems so maybe it’s connected.

I have to start a low residue diet tomorrow. My info pack hasn't arrived yet so can anyone offer any advice as to what I can have?
I've Googled but got some conflict advice. One list says you can have cheese, one says avoid cheese 🙄

MollyHuaCha · 06/01/2019 22:00

Good luck OP and Borntobeamum. You too Nico.

DarienGap · 06/01/2019 22:41

Good luck to all.
I was referred under the 2 week rule a few years ago as I had diarrhoea, bleeding, nausea and couldn't eat much of anything. Also had v high calprotectin? levels.

Convinced myself I had c so was petrified of the colonoscopy. Had it with just gas and air (it was fine) and thankfully all clear.
The doc said my symptoms were severe ibs made worse by chronic anxiety. Bleeding was down to a sore bottom from the diarrhoea.

Symptoms then eased off.
Hoping that everyone waiting on results gets good news x

Corbynscat · 07/01/2019 10:41

Hey everyone!

It went well and really wasn’t bad as I was expecting. The worst part for me was the prep but the colonscopy itself was no big deal. They had trouble with my veins but I have low blood pressure and tiny veins so I expected that. Consultant did it in the end. I had sedation which mix of midazolam and fentanyl which helped no end!
I lay there quite content watching my bowel! No weird lumps or bumps but I’ve had 8 biopsies taken so should hear back in 4 weeks!

@borntobeamum you can have cheese I had it on toast! I’d recommend though to keep all meals light so it’s less to go out the other way. When you start the laxative stay very near the loo. Get some Vaseline and some sensitive bum wipes and apply Vaseline after each visit.

Corbynscat Glad it went well. Fingers crossed that it's a positive outcome. 4 weeks seems a long time though 😯
Thanks for the advice x x

Corbynscat · 07/01/2019 14:15

@borntobeamum

I think they’re very short staffed unfortunately! I was treated by a outside medical company as they weren’t in nhs uniforms and had some medical name on them. My stool sample still isn’t back and that went off on the 20th December!

Good luck Smile hope all goes well for you too

Jeeeeeez this moviprep is absolutely rank!!!! 🤢

EveryDayIsLikeMonday · 11/01/2019 21:24

Hi, it could be IBD. I had a 2 week referral last year and was convinced I had cancer. I got a pretty quick diagnosis of ulcerative colitis after my colonoscopy. Hope you get your results back soon.

Borntobeamum · 12/01/2019 07:37

Thank you Every. Apart from a test showing blood in my stools, I have no pain, no loss of appetite or weight. Nothing.
I have to admit I'm terrified 😥

Corbynscat · 14/01/2019 11:01

@borntobeamum

Sending you lots of Flowers the moviprep is vile I chilled it and drank it with a straw which helped marginally!

Thinking of you

Borntobeamum · 14/01/2019 11:58

(Corby) it was absolutely rank but I managed it all Friday evening. Been referred for a fast track CT scan as my bowel was too stiff for them to complete despite entenox and optimum pain relief.
Regarding the endoscopy, I have a large hiatus hernia and Barretts oesophagus so that wasn't the best news.
I swing from Tearful for being as positive as I can but I'm finding it difficult x x
