Last Thursday I started vomiting violently. High temp, shivering etc. By Friday night this was continuing by with an added blocked ear. Totally deaf in my right ear, lots of pain.
Out of hours gave me antibiotics, codine, anti sickness and decongestants.
Fast forward to today and the sickness has stopped and temp gone. However I’ve not slept in days as my ear is still completely blocked and I can hear my pulse constantly! It’s driving me mad. 8 days of hearing boom boom boom. I can’t sleep, I can’t hear and it’s painful at times.
Gp said it can take a few weeks?!?!
I’ve tried swollowing holding my nose, jawning, chewing, nasal balloon. Nothing works.
I need to go back to work next week. Please help!!!!!

What did the GP say was wrong? Was it an ear infection? Has your ear drum perforated or ruptured? If so then it will be weeks before it heals. Or if it is just blocked with catarrh then steaming and decongestants may help?

Do you, or have you, used cotton buds on your ear at any point? They don't clean your ears. They push the wax down and make a hard plug.

I had this, my dr prescribed olive oil drops for 2 weeks and then it being syringed with warm water, by the practice nurse, to remove the blockage. You need to go back to your gp.

Never put anything smaller than your elbow, down your ear.

No wax, gp saw a red ear drum with lots of fluid behind it.
I’ve taken decongestants and steamed every day for a week and nothing! I feel like I’m going mad withvthe dizziness and even typing on here makes me dizzy. The nights are the worst with the constant heart pounding in my ear.

I'm pretty sure the GP can prescribe tablets for the dizziness - although it's virus related.

I had severe vertigo about 6 weeks ago and they gave me some which took about three days to work.

Keep preserving with steaming twice a day/use albas oil with it too.

Good luck op I can totally sympathise with ear pain/dizziness x

I picked up the tablets today. Thank you wineandsunshine I was hoping they would be instant!?

Aww no probs - they may work quicker on you - but definitely helped by day 3 for me so I could return to work!

X

Did you loose your hearing and have fullness wineandsunshine?

No loss of hearing, but definitely fullness (almost like when water is in your ear)...GP checked my ears after the initial episode about 6 weeks later and said continue steaming twice a day.
One ear still hurts at times and have tinnitus but it's much better than what it was!

Marypoppins19 · 29/12/2018 18:13

Thank you.
I can’t cope with 6 more weeks like this though!

Any GPS Out there? How long would you leave a patient with blocked ears due to fluid before a referral to ent?
