Antibiotics "on an empty stomach" - what does that mean?

I've got mastitis and been prescribed flucloxacillin to take 4 times a day "on an empty stomach". I'm breastfeeding my 9 week old and constantly hungry so slightly alarmed by this concept!

Can anyone clarify what "empty" means? Yesterday I had my first dose just before bed, an hour after eating. I've just had my first dose of today but not sure how long I should wait before I have breakfast, then how long after eating I have to leave a gap before taking the next dose (assuming about a 5 or 6 hour gap between doses)?

My husband is taking the same tablets and his say 2 hours after food or an hour before food. It doesn't take into account snacking! You just have to try and not snack so your stomach is 'empty' between meals

I would take before meals eg. Get up 7.30, take tablet. Breakfast 8 ish. Take tablet 11.30, lunch at 12 etc .

I take a lot of antibiotics for chronic kidney issues. An empty stomach usually means leaving at least 2 hours either side of taking them before / after eating food. It’s quite difficult if you like snacking!

This was my fear! Snacking is keeping me going at the moment, and we are well stocked for Christmas.
Oh the things we do for motherhood.
