Trapped wind is no laughing matter

It's agony. I'm always bloated but this is awful and really need pearls of wisdom. It's eight at the top of my stomach, chest, under my left ribs. Definitely "just" wind as diagnosed by gastro. I've taken loads of windeze, charcoal, tried colpermin and mint tea. Tried arse in the air. How I can I shift it??

Drink fizzy coke.

motherone · 22/12/2018 22:58

How ya feeling no op? I rang an out of hours doctor because I though I was going to explode but the nurse there advised drinking a bottle of coke continually until you think yr gonna pop. Worked really well for me my husband heard me burp and then for an hour my stomach gurgled lol

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 07:30

Update: I managed some sleep here and there and a bit of gas escaped but it's only seems to make the rest of it move inside iykwim. It moves from the middle of my chest, under my left ribs and low in my stomach. Breakfast is peppermint tea and two colpermins. It seemed to be more comfortable lying down than standing up ??

Oh you poor thing - I haven't had it in about a year thankfully (we identified onion and potatoes as my triggers so I cut them out entirely for 6m and have been fine since!) but the only things that helped me were buscopan, microwave heat pads and time. It's horrible as non-sufferers can't comprehend how intensely painful it can be!!

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 07:46

@Torsz ah buscopan I thought that was more for diarrhoea type cramps but I'll give it a go!

Torsz · 23/12/2018 07:48

@avoschmado I find it a godsend - I always carry some in my handbag as it's the only thing that works for me. They sell 'ibs' specific packs but it's all the same from what I can tell!!

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 08:00

@Torsz I've taken two and I'll cross everything it helps. I've tried explaining to my dh and mum and they just don't get it; it's so painful.

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 08:01

I'm not even that bloated

Torsz · 23/12/2018 08:06

@avoschmado I really hope it works for you! It takes about 15-20 mins to kick in for me and doesn't cure it completely but makes it much more tolerable. There were times I couldn't get off the floor and I know my husband felt so helpless - and you feel stupid knowing it's 'just' wind but it's agony!

Ohyesiam · 23/12/2018 08:10

Try lying on your front, sounds counterintuitive so took me years to discover, but works every time.
Overu boobs up under my chin or it hurts!

Sierra259 · 23/12/2018 08:15

Oh god, I had this when pregnabt with DC2 and it was so painful I couldn't believe it was just trapped wind. I hadn't thought I was particularly constipated, but I used peppermint tea, prunes and lactulose to make sure things were moving. Also deflatine and keeping hydrated. I found moving around or kneeling and leaning forward onto something helped It lasted just under a week but then disappeared. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Notthisnotthat · 23/12/2018 08:21

Seconding getting your gall bladder checked that's how I felt when mine was playing up.

tuttifritti · 23/12/2018 08:24

Have you sat in a bath? I had a hideous case of trapped wind once soon after giving birth and had to call 111. They got me to sit in a bath for a while and shortly after I got out I got sweet relief.

BrightonBB · 23/12/2018 09:23

Have you tried fizzy coke yet? It is the only thing that shifted it for me and I hate coke. Peppermint made no difference.

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 10:04

I've tried:
Peppermint capsules
Peppermint tea
Loads of windeze
Medicinal charcoal
Buscopan
Hot bath
Heat pad

I get a bit of pain free time but then bam it's back. It's sharp and awful. I sound so feeble but I've got an ooh GP appointment at 11.30. I hate being a time waster.

You are not time wasting it sounds painful.

BrightonBB · 23/12/2018 10:11

Buy a can of coke on the way to your appointment - the bubbles help the trapped wind to come out.

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 10:15

@BrightonBB I don't drink caffeine at all but thank you.

BrightonBB · 23/12/2018 10:15

It sounds ridiculous but like you I’d tried everything on your list - someone suggested Coca Cola and I was so desperate I was willing to try anything. It was cured within 5 minutes.

BrightonBB · 23/12/2018 10:19

It doesn’t have to be coke - any really fizzy drink will do - I guess it depends how bad you are - I was willing to try anything especially as I didn’t even drink a whole can - it is the little bubbles that help it come out - you either burp it out or the other end. It was a Doctor friend suggested it to me!

avoschmado · 23/12/2018 10:23

Ok will get some en route. The health anxiety in me has convinced it's something worse than "just" trapped wind because "just" trapped wind cannot be this painful.

ShadyLady53 · 23/12/2018 10:28

Ginger Ale or plain soda water does the same thing - no caffeine and the ginger settles the stomach.

Slowtrain2dawn · 23/12/2018 10:30

Deflatine is the only remedy that works for me, but not sure if this has the same ingredients as remedies you have already tried.

MrsJayy · 23/12/2018 10:34

I have ibs and i have had the pain you describe but you are doing the right thing getting checked out.

Yohooo · 23/12/2018 10:34

Sound awful OP. Hope you get some relief soon.
