Ear infection experts: Mild ear ache, can I go swimming?

Last night, my ear started throbbing occasionally (painfully). I feel well otherwise & there's no other symptoms, just the ear is painful for 2 seconds every 2-20 minutes.

I presume it's a mild infection. I can manage for now without painkillers, even, and will avoid antiBs as long as it's mild. Am on hols outside UK so getting to a doctor won't be straightforward.

I wanted to go swimming in next few days (chlorinated pool). I read contradictory things about whether swimming could be ok with this kind of ear infection (it's not "swimmer's ear"). Anyone with lots of expertise or experience can advise? Thanks.
