Anyone had grommets as an adult?

And did they help? I’ve had regular ear infections all my life, and have just been refereed to ENT for the second time, the GP said she thinks they will offer me grommets, not sure how I feel about this as she said they grow out so does it involve having to keep going and having them re-fitted? I know children with them grow out of the ear infections normally so only need them once but at 35 I’m unlikely to grow out of it!
It’s not always middle ear infections either, I get a combination of middle and outer ear infections and both ears are affected equally, I’m not sure why, just something I’m prone to I guess! Just wondered if anyone has experience of having grommets as an adult and how helpful they were

Me, a lot. They do fall out after a few years and they’ll reassess you then. I’ve had it done twice and now they won’t do another one so am in limbo.

It does help.

Thanks, that’s not too bad if it’s a few years, I was under the impression it was a few months. Do you have to keep your ears dry? Not too bothered about swimming but need to wash my hair!!

Yes, I had my ears molded for specially fitted ear plugs for the shower/swimming (which I now cannot find).

The operation was quick and I was awake the whole time. Fairly easy and straightforward.
