Bursitis of the shoulder

Hello there. Our beloved nanny has been diagnosed with bursitis of the shoulder. She is in agonising pain and can't work. I feel very sorry for her. Her GP has referred her to the hospital to have it drained. Does anyone have experience of this? Trying to plan how long she may be off for. She is having some physio but it is not helping so far, and is thinking of going private to get it drained as she cannot work or sleep. Trying to do everything we can to support her.

I haven't had it drained but have steroid injections. I've had 3 so far in just under 2 years. The first worked really well for about 12 months and then I've had 2 more since February. They work within about a week but are lasting for shorter amounts of time.

Is that an option for her? Mine have been arranged via rheumatologist at the hospital and I only wait about a week to have them (though I am already being seen there. I guess it would be longer if I had to wait for the initial appointment).

I do feel for her. It's very painful.

Thanks weetabixandshreddies. it sounds really tough. The GP wouldn't giver her the steroid injection as he wants her to get it drained first. Were you off work for a while?

No I haven't taken any time off work. Really hard to carry on though.

I haven't been offered drainage, just injections under ultrasound guidance.

It's definitely getting worse each time though and it's getting bigger. The pain improves dramatically after the injection and is usually gone within the week.

Dreading it coming back again.
