persistent cough at night

I have had a cough for months now and finally went to the GP which told me i had acid reflux which means the acid in my stomach is coming up through esophagus and causing me to cough up mucous.

He gave tablets called omeprazole 10mg which do not seem to do anything to help.

It is so frustrating as all i want right now is a decent nights sleep. I am also waking up my DH and kids with my coughing. I am sleeping on the sofa.

anyone got any advice please?

You could try an antihistamine tablet before you go to sleep.
This year is extremely bad for pollen, and people who have never had any hay-fever/asthma symptoms before are getting coughs now.

yeah my DH said the same thing. i have asthma but my GP said the coughing is nothing to do with my asthma. it could be hayfever i suppose.
thanks

Assuming Dr is correct you could try eating small portions in the evening and dosing yourself with an over the counter ranitidine tablet half an hour before each meal(Don't take with Omneprazole, though) and prop the head of the bed up quite a bit. If it is acid reflux the cough should ease quite quickly. IIRS Omneprazole is the modern preferred antacid to zantac/ranitidine. Excessive mucus production IS a side effect of excessive acid reflux so if his treatment plan isn't working you should go back again for further assessment.

A friend of mine had Pleurisy without the major symptoms, turned out an inflammation on the lining of the lungs, she said she only coughed when she was lying down.
