Really high blood pressure for the first time - scared

Went to the Dr about something completely unrelated- took my BP as haven’t had it done for a few years and it was 165 over 107 (I think)
It’s always been great before even though I’m overweight. Got to go back again next week for another test ‘when I’m less anxious’ - sure I’ll be feeling chilled! If it’s still high have to have one of those day tests.
Anyone else have this? Feel really worried and I’m not normally a worrier.
Anyone know a way to get it down rapidly?

Look online at the DASH diet.... aimed at lowering BP.

Mine was similar to that OP and I was put straight onto BP meds... I take a low dose tablet every day and it's fine now.

Things like a viral infection and just having eaten/had a hot drink can affect it, so don't panic too much yet.

A one off reading means absolutely nothing

I had a reading of 98 as the lower figure. Never had a BP issue in my life

Was given a machine to use at home and record for a week. Got home, sat down and relaxed for ten mins and tentatively took my BP. It was lower figure 75

And every single reading since had been the same give or take

Ask your GP if you can use a machine at home. Or buy one for 20 odd quid from Argos

Indeed aid recommend buying one and taking you BP at different times of the day. It's not unusual to have a high reading when seeing a medical professional.

Thanks for replies, still thinking about it all the time today. I have got an infection hence the dr visit so hopefully that accounts for some of it.
We have a machine at home that DH bought years ago. It wasn’t so high (144/101) but that’s still really high. I’ve done some googling about treatments, glad to hear that the meds have worked well for you Lizzie. Going to have to address my lifestyle now. Too many years of winging it with my health. I just cannot take criticisms at all, feel it really deeply even when it’s for my own benefit.
