What have I done to my knee?

Help. I'm struggling to put weight on it.

I've not 'done' anything - no injuries, knocks, falls, etc. Nothing has snapped or pinged. It doesn't crunch or crack. But around the top of my tibia, where it joins the knee, it's really tender and it really hurts to walk. It's been going on in a niggling, painful but manageable way for over 2 weeks but yesterday it's got significantly worse.

Is this just age? Paracetamol and ibuprofen aren't doing much. Not called GP yet as assume will just say RICE and go for an x-ray. And that's assuming I get an appointment soon.

Any signs of infection? Redness, heat, swelling? I'm no expert, but as you say it has got significantly worse recently, I would get it looked at. If it's still bad in the morning, can you get an on-the-day GP appointment?

Thanks. No swelling, infection etc. I think it's worse today/last night because did a bit too much walking at the weekend. Walking quickly (have to walk quite a bit for commute) definitely aggravates it.
