Has anyone experienced a constant stitch like pain in their side?

I have had a pain in my right side that I can only describe as being like having a stitch for months now. I feel it at the front and at the back of my side - almost on my waist. Some times it is worse than others but there is no pattern. It isn't the stitch as not related to movement or exercise. I often get it when I am relaxed and in bed.

I did mention it to my gp a few months back and as I have had some gynecological issues he said it was probably referred pain but I am not convinced as it doesn't coincide with my cycle. I am not a doctor though.

Has anyone experienced this and discovered the cause?

Many thanks. Smile

I wonder if it could be a muscle spasm which is very common and harmless or perhaps you have issues with your gallbladder.

zen1 · 27/11/2018 23:57

Could it be kidney-related? Did the GP do a urine test?

Saying that, I had a similar pain on my left side, kind of at the level of my lowest rib, for several months. At times it got quite sharp, whilst sometimes it was duller but still present. I never went to the GP, but I was still worried. In the end, it went away and I put it down to a fall I had where I twisted myself awkwardly (didn’t hurt at the time, but pain started shortly afterwards).

Hi. I have a similar thread going at the moment regarding my DS -

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/3411667-DS-at-uni-ongoing-pain-in-right-side-help

It does sound similar and he also says he feels it more when relaxed.
We're none the wiser yet, but I'll let you know if we discover the answer!

Have you tried putting your arms high up in the air and taking a deep breath in? Works for me.

Iloveyou1 · 28/11/2018 17:48

Wow! I've literally just done a search myself for constant stitch feeling and come across this thread.
Since yesterday afternoon,my stitch like come on all a sudden. It's grip me sometimes if I move, even in bed last night it was twisting. I don't do exercise so definitely not from that lol. Had it all day today,I'd say the stitching sensation is actually worse then yesterday and crippled me much more today without warning.

I've no idea what the cause is,thought I'd just post so you know I'm going through it too. Hopefully we can find out why. Mine is on my right side. Very odd.

Really appreciate the responses.

anywinewilldonow - I will have a read of your thread now. Hope you get an answer for your son and please let me know if you do.

giftsonthebrain - Interesting you say that because it crossed my mind that perhaps I need to stretch more and work on my posture. That maybe I am squashing something by slouching.

Iloveyou1 - hope yours doesn't continue to get worse. KUP.

Aquamarine1029 - it doesn't feel like a spasm but certainly not going to dismiss that explanation. Thanks.

zen1 - kidneys has crossed my mind but I am not sure if it is quite the right place. No urine test. If/when I go back to the Dr about this I will ask for a urine test.

I have had the same for the last 6 months. Did you get yours resolved

Dvdfj · 18/07/2021 23:00

I am currently going through the same thing. I feel it most when I am seated or lying now. Was worried it was my liver…

SobranieCocktail · 09/08/2022 14:50

@MayLeaveADentInYourSofa just wondering if this resolved itself, or if you got a diagnosis? (I am experiencing someting very similar!)

lightand · 09/08/2022 14:52

It couldnt be trapped wind could it?

lightand · 09/08/2022 14:53

Other opinion.
I had adhesions many years ago.
Had to have an operation.
Caused me pain for years before the reason was discovered.

lightand · 09/08/2022 14:54

[not to alarm anyone, but the reason could not be found, adhesions were suspected, I agreed to be opened up for the answer to be found. Answer was indeed many adhesions.]

SharpLily · 09/08/2022 14:54

Gallbladder.

SobranieCocktail · 10/08/2022 06:34

@lightand that's interesting. Do mind sharing what condition caused the adhesions, and did you receive any treatment?
