3yr old child on day 4 of chickenpox mum to keep her in her room during the party - is my 6 wk old at risk? would it be a bad thing for her to get it out of the way now? what are your thoughts?

Day four of chickenpox is still contagious. You don't really want a six-week-old catching chicken pox, I don't think. It's a bit early.

But if you are immune and breastfeeding, your six-week-old is probably ok ... (I guess by your user name that you bf? )

Gecko caught chicken pox off dd2 when she was 7 weeks. She was quite spotty and slept a little more than she had been but apart from that was not bad at all

if she gets it now then she is likely to get it again later - I don't think they get much immunity when they are that young.

Gecko is exclusively bf but still caught it, I think that was why it wasn't too bad at all though

I would go, because I can't imagine how on earth a baby in your arms could catch chickenpox from a child in another room. Agree you don't want a six week old baby to catch chickenpox.

Think 6wks is a bit too young. Apart from anything else, you can't use Calpol etc. to try to help with any temperature as you can when they get older.

Yes, if they are breastfed, they may still get a spot or two, but that won't necessarily mean they're finished with the dreaded pox for life.

It is airborne - missed the fact she was being kept in her room. If she's not going to be in the same room as your six week old, she's probably no threat at all.

Of course, if any of her siblings are at the party, they might be about to come down with cp (it's contagious one day before the spots come out), but so could anyone ...

thats what i thought aloha - they actually have to come into contact / sneeze or something? wasn't sure about parents contact/ parents holding new born etc etc i'm sure i'm being paranoid!
