Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had a steroid injection but also takes propanol/beta blockers. I can't find anything online about interactions between them.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question, but propranolol and propanol are very different substances and I'm sure you mean the former so maybe that will help with your searchSmile.

Yes I do lol, it's a tough one as I can't actually get a definitive answer It's not a regular medication but I don't know if it's ok as a taking one on the day. Just wondered if anyone happened to have injections an take the beta blocker. Thank you x

There aren't any interactions listed in the British National Formulary.

Assuming your injections are hydrocortisone, there is a slight risk that its mineralocorticoid side-effects will push your blood pressure up, which might slightly reduce the effectiveness of the beta-blocker. However, you wouldn't usually be prescribed propranolol for high blood pressure (except in a few very rare conditions), so this isn't likely to be relevant.

You can do quick checks of drug interactions at www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php. Don't use it as a substitute for professional medical opinion, though.
