Chicken pox twice in two years???

DS2 has some spots that look suspiciously like the beginnings of chicken pox.
He had chicken pox almost exactly two years ago when he was 11 months old.
I've heard that if they get it under a year old they don't have full immunity.
Is it possible that he's caught it again?

yes, it is possible especially if it was a mild dose.

it is possilbe that he's catching it again. Hopefully he'll have it mildly this time.

If it's not chicken pox, it could be molluscum, or another virus, or maybe just insect bites?

My 13 year old DS had shingles recently. I discovered that if a child has CP before he/she is a year old, they are much more likely to get shingles as a child. Is the rash all over or just in one area, as apparently even very young children can get shingles?

It's mostly in one area, one side of his chest, with a few others scattered about. They don't look any bigger this morning. I'll just have to keep an eye on it.
What is molluscum btw?

molluscum is a virus that causes spots that last for quite a while. Loads of children get them.

They are looking more like chicken pox now. He's also got a fever and runny eyes and it's his thrid birthday today

Chicken pox twice - it's not fair is it! They're only supposed to get it once!

chocolateteapot · 21/06/2007 16:33

Yes yes yes yes yes ! Sorry, got a bit carried away. My DS had it at round about 9 months, quite badly. Ever since, everytime the wretched pox does the round he gets a mild dose. The first time the spots appeared then disappeared in front of my eyes at lunchtime and if my Mum hadn't seen them too I would have thought I dreamt it. It's happened a couple of other times since with just a few spots that most don't get to the blistering stage.

Definatly possible - I had them 3 times in 6 months as a young 'un then got 'em again aged 13

lyrabelacqua · 21/06/2007 21:32

Oh no, he's not going to get it yet again is he?
He's ok now and he's has a lovely birthday. the spots are getting smaller so should be gone by tomorrow.
