I'm really worried about DS, 3.5. He came home from Nursery with a headache and feeling grotty so I put him to bed. High temp. I just checked him and his temp is 39.2. Very strange but suddenly his eyes are really sticky, oozing. For the past couple of hours he has been twitching and jerking, but sleeping soundly and speaking when I rouse him, saying No when I ask if he is ok. What do I do, dose him up on calpol and Nurofen. i won't be able to sleep tomight for worrying about him.

cool him off straightaway - blankets off, PJ top off, calpol and nurofen and keep a close eye on him - call doc if you can't get his temp down.

poor thing

Curmudgeonlett · 18/06/2007 20:58

call nhs direct

Kbear · 18/06/2007 20:58

the temp will cause him to be unsettled, hence the twitching.

WhereInWestLondon · 18/06/2007 20:58

I would get him checked out. The twitching would worry me. It is probably just a bad virus and don't panic but twitching could be a sign of brain inflammation.

HenriettaHippo · 18/06/2007 21:01

is there any way you can get a doctor to come to you? do you have any friends who are doctors? At least that way you don't have to get him up, take him to A&E if you don't need to.

I hope he's ok.

Answer nhs direct questions here. But if in doubt seek help, I'd say.

yesmynameisigglepiggle · 18/06/2007 21:02

Thanks, have just stripped him off and put wet flannel on his head. I also paniced because he had been laying on his arm and his hand had gone completely blue. It has returned to normal colour now. Thankyou xx

Given him the medicine.

he just said he has a headache, he has never had a 'headache' before and this combined with the high temperature worries me Hopefully his temp will come down and the headache will be symptom of fever

these have been the symptoms for a nasty virus that has been doing the rounds here.

JodieG1 · 18/06/2007 21:12

get him checked out tonight, call someone now imo

JodieG1 · 18/06/2007 21:13

You're worried so call someone, don't just wait and see. He'll probably be fine but it's worth calling and getting him seen to find out for sure

KbearBrockovich · 18/06/2007 21:14

I would call the out of hours doc if his temp hasn't come down by now. You have nothing to lose and peace of mind to gain
