Can I lay out my ignorance for all to see, and ask a question about tampons?

... It's the sort of thing I should have asked when I was 14, but here we go...

When you have period clots, and you are using tampons, where does the clot go? If you are using pads, it goes onto the pad, so what about tampons?

Yes it does - because the mooncup is made of silicone so it is smooth. I do find that sometimes it slips up a bit far inside and then I have to rummage a bit(!) but still find on the whole that it is less ouchy than tampons.

Putting in tampons makes me feel sick too. I only do it when I am feeling like being especially nice to the children and taking them swimming. Otherwise they know that periods = no swimming, so they keep an anxious eye out for "when Mummy's blood comes". I don't really like towels either (athough the invention of wings, in my view, was fantastic). But then I hate periods really. Nasty, painful, messy, and now I have had my family, unneccessary! when is someone going to invent a safe way of getting rid of them when you don't want them any more?

sarz · 20/06/2007 11:52

nooka, i know its not always the case, but depo has stopped mine! Or you could go on the pill and just take packets together! I agree i HATE periods!!

squimlet · 20/06/2007 11:58

mooncups are the best. i couldnt wear tampons post children and the mooncup is a godsend

wishingfourgotone · 20/06/2007 12:10

just need quick mooncup q answered if poss, im nearing end of af regular tampon user and was wondering if i could practice putting it in place whilst not on af so clued up for next af?

mrsmalumbas · 20/06/2007 12:18

Yes you can, if you need to you can wet it under the tap to make it more slippy.

wishingfourgotone · 20/06/2007 12:27

mrsmalumbas, thanks just dont fancy faffing whilst af here figured it took cpl of cycles to get used to tampons all those years ago so would be nice to get used to mooncup before af

squimlet · 20/06/2007 14:37

its always easier when af is there to try mooncups/tampons but wetting it will help you decide

sarz I used depo for a while before dh had his vasectomy. It was great when I was on it, no periods for three months, but then three in about three weeks when I came off!
