My 4yo has the start of chickenpox. Is it highly likely my toddler will get it too?

They share a room, cups, baths and cuddles. The little one will get it won't she? Does this mean I am in for a nightmare 3 or 4 weeks?

ds (4) and dd(3) both got the pox while we were on holiday. The spots appeared on day 3/4. Fully covered by day 6. Could not fly home for another 2 weeks.
Wonderful insurance company!!

turned out ok in the end.
I hope both kids get the pox at once - soooooo much easier

It seems she has caught it at nursery school so DD2 won't have been exposed at the same time. DD1 looks dreadful today At least the sun is out and we will be able to get out in the garden. I ran out of entertainment ideas after one day!

We're on spotwatch too in our house. DD (1yr) has been sent home from nursery today as vaguely spotty looking and the pox is doing the rounds. Dr was very non-committal (SO unhelpful when you have to tell work you MIGHT but MIGHT NOT need to have time off) so we're just waiting to see if anything develops over next 12 hrs or so....

I'm thinking dd has cp too. I found 2 spots on her upper arm and shoulder today. They are quite raised and look diff to normal spots. She's been waking and finding it hard to go back to sleep for the last week and a half so if it is the pox then that may explain it.

Yes it is pretty likely that your toddler will catch it within the next few weeks, but saying that, DS1 had chicken pox when he was 4 & DS2 (9 mths at the time) didn't catch it from him. He caught it last summer from nursery though & had it pretty bad.

Make sure you have lots of calamine at the ready!

Well the waiting is over for us!!!! DS2 had "a" spot under his armpit yesterday afternoon and there are more spots appearing by the hour today.
They are really tiny spots but I now know its the pox as same as DS1 2 weeks ago to the day!
He is in good form at the moment, just a bit tired and a very mild fever.
Anyone else with Spots today?

Elibean · 21/06/2007 14:17

Good luck Choccy, may it be mild, but still enough to give immunity, not too itchy and fast

No spots here, day 15 after exposure

Thanks elibean.
