At what point does the phrase "life's to short, eat the cake" become detrimental

Where do you draw the line. Life is short, so why deny yourself that sweet item that's making your mouth water? But at the same time, is the cake going to reduce your already short time on this planet a bit more?

Recently diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia. This can contribute to low fertility and higher risk of miscarriage or worse womb cancer. (TTC at the moment) Am being sent for biopsy to check the cell status to be safe. Have to say, Doc has been great and I am sure all is fine. But what if it isn't...

An imbalance of too much estrogen can cause this thickening. Too much estrogen can be caused by a variety of things but being over weight can be a contributing factor.
I'm not excessively over weight but I am a bit squishy. Should I be turning down that tastey sweet thing?
Where do you draw the line between enjoying yourself, as who knows what tomorrow can bring and turning down things to prevent life shortening results?

Well, if you do have a baby, that in itself will be an incentive to see him/her grow up. That's how it feels to me anyway...

Well just in response to your title and first paragraph, I don’t think you should eat the metaphorical cake EVERY time. Common sense and a balance, surely? I don’t think anyone should live life by that motto, unless you’re 90 where it won’t make much difference!

I’m short and don’t weigh much with a BMI of 21, so my daily total calories are possibly less than yours, yet I still manage to have daily treats and maintain being slim. It’s all about balance- if I want a 450 calorie chocolate croissant and a 280 calorie bag of crisps, I’m going to go for a healthier option for supper sort of thing. Or if I know that I’m eating a full Nando’s tonight with like 900 calories, I’m not going to overdo the cals during the day. You can still ‘enjoy yourself’ and be healthy, especially if you’re active. There’s so much good, lower calorie/healthier food out there - you don’t have to constantly eat sweet treats all the time.

In your case where you have the possible implications of infertility, miscarriage and cancer whilst you’re trying to conceive, surely that’s all the more reason to alter your diet or attitude to ‘treats’? I think you may be at the ‘detrimental’ point if you’re having to ask this question. To answer your final question, I’d probably say turn the cake down when it starts to impact your health; it might now be time to alter your priorities and put the cake down sometimes, or start going to the gym.

I've had cancer. Got to say, cake doesn't really tempt me much, anymore, when I think about it.
