Thrush, applicators and pregnancy

11wks preg. and thrushy.
Dr prescribed 200mg canesten over 3 nights, as a pessary, which comes with a really long applicator. In the small print, it says be careful using the applicator when pregnant. Well, not having eyes down there, am a bit worried about shoving it too far up - is this possible, or am I being paranoid?

If so, is it ok to insert them digitally, or do you risk not shoving the pessaries too far up?

I don't think you'll hurt yourself with the applicator. It looks really long, but only the end bit actually goes inside you - half will telescope into itself, and part is also the handle that doesn't enter you. Don't put the pessaries in digitally, it'll be much trickier to get them in the right place if you do.

just as it says, be careful

your cervix can shift a bit during pg so it might be lower than you'd normally expect. If it is, obviously don't force it, but there's no risk of shoving pessary through cervix or anything like that though.

Have a go with the applicator and if it feels all wrong do it digitally.

I was prescribed a cream with an applicator when I was pregnant with ds2. Apart from it being a bit awkward with a baby bump everything was ok. In fact I became quite a dab hand at it after a couple of days!

leaflet recommends not using applicator if pregnant to use a finger as you can feel when you are getting to near cervix

overheard staff on labour wards telling partners to help insert if bump too big - well its not as if he hasn't been anywhere near the area
