My aunt had throat cancer a few years ago & ended up with a voice box & no sense of taste or smell.

She communicated with her family & friends by text or writing notes.

She was then diagnosed with an aneurysm & has been waiting treatment since. She has been in & out of hosp quite a few times & her family are in bits.

She had an op on Saturday to prepare her for another op yest to repair the aneurysm, but she has not came round from the op

Her family were by her bedside lastnight, we all got news that she was brain dead but she was still on a machine that was breathing for her until her family all arrived.

AFAIK, the family should all be there this morning & they have to turn off her machine It i such a hard thing to do & my mam is in bits. She is keeping me informed by text, but I feel so ill.

Cancer & heart problems run in my family, as does diabetes & arthritis, what a legacy.

Please think of my aunt & her family this morning, I hate to think what they're going through.

Thanks.

Thinking of you all x

AbRoller · 15/06/2007 10:31

don't know you on here really as I'm new(ish) so I hope you don't mind, not sure if you only meant people you regularly chat with.

I will keep them all in my thoughts today and pray for peace and strength for them all.

take care.

fireflyfairy2 · 15/06/2007 10:38

Thanks everyone, Abroller, every thought is appreciated

I feel useless, there's no point me going to the hosp as it is in another city & she has 7 kids of her own [all adults now with kids] who will all be there with her, plus her own sisters & brothers.

I am hoping against hope that when they turn off her machine there may be a glimmer... but I know I am asking for a miracle.

Sorry to hear this FF2. Take comfort from the fact that your aunt has had a happy and fulfilled life (I am judging that from the 7 kids who are all at her bedside) and if the worst happens, she is not alone.

Thinking of you and your family.

filthymindedvixen · 15/06/2007 11:04

Sorry to hear this. thinking of you x

My mam just called to say they have switched off her machine & are letting he slip away naturally.

She is devastated, as are we all. My sister keeps calling me & sobbing. I feel fo my mam as I wouldn't like to lose a sister & I feel for my cousins who are all so close to their mum.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

She died just after 1pm. Mam said not to go to the hospital as she was being taken to the morgue, so we will go up to the home place later on.

Part of me wants to scream in frustration, yet part of me is so relieved that she is now free from pain.

I believe when you die, all your senses are returned & you stay in an ever youthful state.... she'll be up there now having a good meal & a glass of the red stuff... RIP old bird & thanks for the memories & the fig rolls

in tears as I type firefly...

IMO it makes you wonder if there is someone up there...seems to make his mark on/or take the good ones. Just seems so unfair..

Hugs and thoughts to your family from shhhh & family. x

Haribosmum · 15/06/2007 18:21

So sorry to hear about your Aunt.

But I also beleive that when you pass over the rainbow bridge you gain all your senses back again so hopefully she's back to how she used to be now with all her friend and family she lost before her.

((((hugs))) for you at this sad time.

fireflyfairy2 · 15/06/2007 18:25

Thankyou Haribosmum.

We're leaving shortly to go to the house, in Ireland we have the dead waked at home, with an open coffin do the family can pay their last respects. It will be a tough few days though.

I'm thinking of you and yours, firefly.

This lady is loved. That's a legacy.

And positive thoughts to yourself, because you're scared. Don't be.
