Stabbing/burning pains in feet and down leg

For the past 12 months or so, I have been experiencing sudden sharp stabbing pains in my feet which have steadily got worse. When it first started, they would affect only the top of my foot and although painful, the pain would last a matter of seconds. I had pain maybe once every couple of days. Now, the pain is more frequent (several times a day) more intense and last longer. I went to my GP when I had had them for a couple of months and she didn't seem too concerned, but now the pain is pretty bad and affects the soles of my feet and also the lower part of my leg now. I also get tingling/burning in my hands but not to the same degree. Does anyone have any experience of this or any idea what could be causing it? I think I may have to go back to the GP as painkillers are having no effect.

Have you had any surgery on or near the affected areas? Or any fall/break etc?

Sounds like restless leg syndrome. Apparently can affect women in menopause.

I haven't had any surgery or falls. I hadn't considered restless leg syndrome.
