Stabby stabby ouch - pain in kidneys

I've had a niggly "bad back" for a couple of months, over the weekend it got much worse, which also made it clear it wasn't actually in my back it was towards the right of my back instead. Thought possibly kidneys, but no other symptoms and never had kidney problems before so went to GP. I had an appointment with the nurse on Tuesday and she found blood and protein in my urine so has sent that and some bloods off for tests. I've also got a 3 day course (6 pills) of Trimethoprim which I have been taking since Tuesday afternoon, 2 pills left to take.

Pain was bad last night, couldn't lie in bed without feeling uncomfortable, eased off around 1am. Was ok this morning when i started work at 8am, but over last hour its getting very stabby sore again.

I have another appointment tomorrow afternoon. Taking ibruprofen and just now paracetmol.

Ive heard kidney pain (maybe infection or stones) can be very sore, how sore do you let it get before asking for more help? Is there anything else that can help? Im drinking loads and urine is nice and clear, no pain peeing, just back pain.

I have the same thing OP and I’m seeing my GP tomorrow. I have read that you should just take paracetamol (I’ve been taking co-codomol) and about the ibuprofen.

Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear you are feeling bad too. It is so painful, never felt anything like it before , I couldnt sit down for more than 5 mins without pain and even then had to sit straight up, couldn't even attempt the sofa or lie down. It's just in my back /right kidney area, no pain anywhere else.

Phoned doctors surgery, ended up crying telling the receptionist how sore it was 😳 and then walked around the house for 2 hours, with straight back no twisting, to unsuccessfully avoid stabby pain as much as possible until doc called back.

I've got an earlier appointment tomorrow and he said paracetamol and ibuprofen were both OK and then asked if I had any stronger painkillers in the house. Told him I had some of the dogs 🐕 tramadol from when he had an injury last year which are actually human ones so I am now taking those. 😂 1 tramadol is good! 👍🏻👍🏻 still quite painful but not unbearable stabby, planning on taking 2 before bed!!

Hope you get sorted soon!

Don’t take ibuprofen if you think there’s something wrong with your kidneys!
