dd I suspect has another uti and i'm trying my best to get a smaple from her. I've just sat her on my lap, on a pot for 2 hours wating for her to wee. She won't sit on the potty and I don't think I can expect her to sit on a toilet for long with no distractions. Like each time before, she's had enought after 2 hours and will not stay still. I went to get a bag to stick on her bum, though you're not supposed to and she weed on the sofa. Previously it's been on the carpet. I'm not bothered about either I just want to get a sample so she can be treated properly.

Any tips pleeeeeaaaaasssse before I scream............again

We had to do one of these for ds before he was potty trained and they gave us a special bag which stuck around his willy and caught the wee. If you call docs tmorrow morning maybe they would have a girl version?

DelGirl · 13/06/2007 19:45

I've spoken to the hospital and the nurses are adamant that doctors won't accept the results as it could be contaminated but I just don't know what else I can do. have though about sitting by her tonight whilst she sleeps in the hope I can catch something but I just don't know how . Poor thing is very unhappy at the mo.

Poor girl - hope you manage to get some. Horrible when they are not well.

perpetuaphoenixfire · 13/06/2007 19:56

we were given a kit with a sterile pad to go in the nappy, you then just squeezed it out. looked like a sanitary pad but wasnt (you cant use them cos of the gel stuff inside them). call kids outpatients (where we got ours) or a&e and cause a fuss til they give you something useful. you cant be the only one who has told them they are struggling! mine had kidney reflux, i asked for a spare kit at every check up so i could use it before we went to the next. good luck

thanks, I think thats all I can do but I will try tonight, perhaps I should put her to sleep in the baby bath . Just kidding but I'm really not sure how on earth i'm going to get one tbh and I don't want to cause her more upset and a fear of weeing.

Found you!

Oh DG, not again! I was another one who was going to suggest the sticky bag. I had to use one on DD when she was a baby but she was only a few weeks old, didn't realise they do them for toddlers too. I remember them telling me to make sure that only urine got into the sample and that if any faeces, even the tiniest amount, got in it wouldn't be an acceptable sample.

Would you like me to try and pick something up for you from the children's ward at work?

DelGirl · 13/06/2007 23:07

hi

if you could that would be really really helpful, thank you . Her temp is down to 38 so i'm going to get some sleep and set my alarm for more calpol in a couple of hours

Just a quick one 'cos I'm at work and shouldn't be on here really.

Managed to get you a sterile bowl to put into potty (not sure how the potty side of things is going with your dd though) and two more specimen pots just in case you need them. The nurse on the ward told me that 5-6 drops of urine is enough for the sample so don't worry amount a large amount. Easier said than done though eh?

Let me know what you want me to do with them. Shall be logging off for rest of day now. Off to SS after school so could pop them in after that if you like. Send me a text message to my mobile and let me know what's best for you. x

ooh thanks sparkler. I might make it to ss, i'll see how she is. Phoned the hospital and they said a clean catch again and suggested putting her in the bath, then on a pot. did all that, lay in bed with in the end and she weed yay . nope, it was contaminated, blast. Another 2 hours gone Still, I was pleased we got one and praised her highly so she may go on the potty for me next time. At least she knows it's a good thing. They won't give bags or pads as they say girls bits are too close together and get contaminated easily. Not sure how peeing in a pot is that much better tbh but there you are.
